“Grateful For Everything You Do”: Vance, Hegseth Personally Thank National Guard Troops, Serve Them Hamburgers

In a sign of genuine appreciation and gratitude for their hard work, Vice President JD Vance and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth visited National Guard troops positioned in Washington, D.C.’s Union Station the morning of August 20th. Though it was well received, the Trump admin pair admitted serving food was not commensurate with protecting citizens and tourists from whom Donald Trump called ‘thugs’ in previous statements to the press.

“We wanted to bring you guys some burgers. You know, you guys bust your ass all day, and we give you a hamburger. Not a fair trade, but we’re grateful for everything you guys do,” the vice president stated in remarks given ahead of preparing to dish up burgers to the uniformed men and women tasked with cracking down on Democrat-enabled crime.

Of course, Vance and Hegseth are not merely empty suits; both wore the uniform, with Vance serving in the Marines and Hegseth serving in the National Guard himself. And while serving food may not be on par with providing security to a major city, it was clear through interactions that the men and women assigned with their important duty did not see the arrival of the two men as merely opportunistic or a photo op.

The reason for the troops’ presence was the inability to ignore massive crime and violence in the nation’s capital. In a presidential memorandum issued August 11, President Trump signaled he could no longer stand by and watch people within the city to be aggressed upon any further. “As President of the United States and Commander in Chief of the District of Columbia National Guard, it is my solemn duty to protect law-abiding citizens from the destructive forces of criminal activity,” Trump’s memorandum to Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth stated.

It continued, in part: “Pursuant to my authority under the Constitution and laws of the United States and the District of Columbia, I direct the Secretary of Defense to mobilize the District of Columbia National Guard and order members to active service, in such numbers as he deems necessary, to address the epidemic of crime in our Nation’s capital. The mobilization and duration of duty shall remain in effect until I determine that conditions of law and order have been restored in the District of Columbia.”

In a comment on X beneath the video, one user reiterated the challenge of meeting the demands of National Guard troops through acts of gratitude. The user stated, “Love his realness. JD knows a burger is nothing, and he makes it clear. By showing love and respect to our troops, they are finally getting the recognition they deserve at all levels.”

Another hilariously summarized the day by commenting “JD and Hegseth handing out burgers to the National Guard. Miller lambasting stupid elderly hippies. We are so back,” referencing perhaps the highlight of the day when President Donald Trump’s White House Deputy Chief of Staff and Department of Homeland Security advisor Stephen Miller absolutely cooked the pro-crime protestors oddly upset that Trump et al decided not to let the nation’s capital city get overrun by criminal thugs.

“We’re going to ignore these stupid white hippies that all need to go home and take a nap because they’re all over 90 years old,” Miller said with absolute derision. Watch that hilarious takedown below:
