Legendary rockstar Alice Cooper recently shared his Christian faith, explaining the truth of the Gospel, which states that Jesus Christ died to save humanity. Cooper explained that if one doesn’t have Christ at the center of their life they are ultimately lost.
“If we don’t all revolve around Christ, then we’re way out in space somewhere,” the rocker said. “He draws you in. He’s the light.” Cooper, 76, continued, “You’re drawn to that light, and it’s nothing you can explain in words. You know, it’s something that happens to your heart, where all of a sudden you realize who this is and you realize, ‘…I don’t…I’m not worthy of this.’”
Cooper asserted that despite each and every one of us being unworthy of Christ’s salvation, He still knew our names and died on the cross for our sins. “Being hung on the cross, He knew your name. He knew my name,” the singer continued. “And that made me go, ‘How can I not believe in this?’”
The famous singer pointed out that surrendering to Christ kickstarts a process of sanctification, stating, “He changes your heart. Now he didn’t say, ‘And now that you’re a Christian, you can no longer be in rock and roll.’ His plan was, now you’re a Christian, go be in a rock and roll band but follow me. Be Alice Cooper.”
Addressing the common misunderstanding of Christian doctrine, that of legalism which claims people must earn their salvation through works, Cooper added, “People have a very warped view of Christianity. They think it’s all very precise and we never do wrong and we’re praying all day and we’re right wing.” He also pointed out there is nothing inherently contradictory between rock music and Christianity. “There’s nothing in Christianity that says I can’t be a rock star,” he said.
“…He has total control over everyone’s life,” Cooper stated. “People aren’t feeling fulfilled by how many cars they own or the size of their stock portfolio. Even the addicts are saying, It doesn’t matter how many drugs I take, I’m not fulfilled. This isn’t satisfying. There’s a spiritual hunger going on.”
The Christian Tribune reported on previous comments from Cooper where he noted the importance of Christ. “He’s the core of everything. He’s life itself. He’s the light, you know? I mean, it’s if we don’t all revolve around Christ, and we’re way out from space somewhere, he draws you in,” he said.
“He’s the light. You’re drawn to that light. And it’s nothing you can explain in words, you know, it’s something that happens to your heart where all of a sudden, you realize who this is, and you realize, oh my gosh, I don’t I’m not worthy of this talking about, I’m not worthy. I’m not worthy. We’re we are not worthy,” he said. “And yet, still being hung on the cross, He knew your name, he knew my name, and that made me go, How can I not believe in this? It changes your heart. Now, he didn’t say, and now that you’re a Christian, you can no longer be in rock and roll. His plan was, now you’re a Christian, go be in a rock and roll band. But follow me, be Alice Cooper, you know?” he said.
