The liberal media outlet HuffPost shamelessly smeared beloved TV star and outspoken Christian Phil Robertson in an article published the day after his death, with journalist Lee Moran saying that Robertson “spread homophobic hate” and calling out statements that Robertson made defending the traditional view of marriage.

For context, Phil Robertson, a Christian media personality who was best known for starring in the A&E reality series “Duck Dynasty,” passed away on May 25, 2025, at the age of 79. Prior to his death, Robertson’s son, Jase, announced in an interview that his father’s health was “not good” and explained that Phil had been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease.

In addition, Jase announced Phil’s death on X on the night of May 25, saying that Phil had “gone to be with the Lord” and adding, ” He will be missed, but we know he is in good hands, and our family is good because God is very good! We will see him again!” Commenting on Jase’s post, Christian author Lee Strobel wrote, “Grateful that Phil is in the arms of the Father.”

However, as Christians mourned Robertson’s passing online, HuffPost’s Lee Moran quickly stepped in and decried Robertson’s traditional views on marriage, calling him “homophobic” in an article published the day after his death. Moran wrote that Robertson made headlines for “his anti-gay rhetoric,” adding that the “Duck Dynasty” star was suspended for “giving an interview to GQ magazine in which he described ‘homosexual behavior’ as a sin.”

Moreover, the comments referenced by Moran in the aforementioned GQ article were made by Robertson in 2013, who told GQ that homosexuality was a sin, adding that other examples of sin were “bestiality, sleeping around with this woman and that woman and that woman and those men.” In addition, Robertson said of homosexuality, “Don’t deceive yourself. It’s not right.”

Furthermore, Moran called Robertson out for statements he made while endorsing Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) in the 2016 presidential election, quoting him as saying, “Redefining marriage and telling us that marriage is not between a man and a woman? C’mon, Iowa, it’s nonsense. It’s evil! It’s wicked! It’s sinful.”

Following Phil’s death, Sen. Cruz celebrated Robertson’s life and mourned his passing in a May 26, 2025, X post, saying, “Very sad he has passed. #PhilRobertson was one of a kind. An American original. He loved God, and he was fearless in speaking the truth.” Sen. Cruz added, “Heidi & I are praying for Phil’s family. He is with Jesus now. May he rest in peace. ✝️🙏❤️”

In addition to Sen. Cruz, faith leader Franklin Graham, son of evangelist Billy Graham, called for prayer for Phil’s wife and family in a post on X, saying, “Please join me in praying for Miss Kay and all of the Robertson family as Phil Robertson has passed away.” Graham added, “Now he is in the presence of his Lord and Savior. I always appreciated that Phil stood firm with the Word of God and took every opportunity to talk about his faith in Jesus.”
