“I Was An Arrogant Kid”: Vice President Vance Shares Faith Journey Of Losing, Returning To God In New Book

Vice President JD Vance is making the rounds after the publication of a second book years after becoming a celebrity author of sorts for Hillbilly Elegy took the nation by storm and catapulted him into the national political spotlight. Vance’s latest work focuses on his return to faith and is titled Communion.

As Fox News summarized on social media, the vice president uses the pages to “reflect on his deeply personal journey of losing and ultimately reclaiming his Christian faith, offering insight for parents whose children may be drifting from the church.” Vance has steadily been promoting the idea of drifting away as a younger person but returning after aging and experiencing much if life’s greatest ups and downs.

“Vance says as an ‘arrogant kid,’ he briefly dismissed his upbringing, but his perspective radically shifted once he focused on the true responsibilities of adulthood and family,” the Fox recap continued. Prompting the post to X was an appearance on the corporate media behemoth in which he explained in further detail how the book was inspired and what lessons he’s taken away in rediscovering the importance of his Christian faith.

“I do talk a little bit in my book about why I lost my faith, and one of the things that I try to explain to Christian parents from the perspective, obviously, of one kid is why a guy raised in the faith lost his faith, and as I write in the book, Rachel, I say, you know, I just stopped seeing that faith as relevant to my life, in some ways I was an arrogant kid, and that’s why in some ways the church just wasn’t speaking to me,” he said.

Vance continued, “But you know, as I became older and I cared about not how much money I made or whether I was going to the right schools, I started to care about the important things, you know, becoming a good husband, becoming a good father, actually raising my kids with the kind of values that I was raised with, I realized that Christianity was not this superstition that I had dismissed as a 22 year old kid. It was actually this very profound set of values and teachings, and those values and teachings came from a source of real truth,” he finished.

Available now on Amazon, the synopsis on the Bezos-owned online retail platform gives a similar description. “From the bestselling author of Hillbilly Elegy—an intimate account of why Vice President JD Vance strayed from the Christianity of his youth and what led him back to faith,” it begins.

“Communion is a spiritual exploration of what it means to be a Christian in all the seasons of life JD Vance has experienced—as a child, a young man, a husband, a father, and a leader. Picking up in some ways where Hillbilly Elegy left off, Communion recounts how Vance’s pursuit of material privileges ultimately led him into a secular wilderness,” it goes on.

“Communion reveals how Vance regained his faith and discusses his conversion to Catholicism, how his faith guides his work in public life, and how it shapes his thoughts about the future,” it concludes.

Reacting to the original post, comments were hugely supportive of the Catholic vice president.
“Christianity is awesome it shapes morals and is very key to teach your children the ways of God. The Bible says that you should teach your children in the way of God and they will never depart from it. Good that Vance’s parent did it,” one user wrote.

“Agreeing in prayer for God’s Supernatural Grace, Faith, Wisdom, Favor and Protection, for our Favorite and Most Amazing Vice President JD Vance! And May No Weapon Formed Against Him or His Family Prosper!” wrote another.
