Country music star Jimmie Allen recently voiced his love for faith-based Christian music. The singer even said it “saved his life” when he was going through a dark period. “It grounds you,” he noted, referring to the power of Christian music.
Allen burst onto the country music scene over the past several years, quickly rising to the top and becoming one of the biggest names in the genre. He won the 2021 CMA New Artist of the Year and the 2021 ACM Awards New Male Artist of the Year. Furthermore, he was nominated for a Grammy and even delivered a performance during the 2021 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.
Amid his meteoric rise to fame, Allen has not forgotten his roots in Christianity and the influence of faith-based music in his life. He noted that he is still a practicing Christian who anticipates future collaborations with other artists who are followers of Christ.
“I love Christian music,” he said. “… I grew up Christian – and still am. But I’ve always wanted to do country music. But I’m a huge Christian music fan, and I’ve always wanted to do songs with Christian artists. I’ve actually been to the K-Love Awards before as a fan.”
Jimmie named several high-profile artists in the Christian music scene who had major influences on him at an earlier age. He talked about Fred Hammond, Mike Purkey, Andrae Crouch, and various others. “Mike Purkey was my mom’s favorite singer,” he said.
According to Allen, Christian music was a powerful force that he claimed saved his life as he was walking through a dark season of life. “About a year ago, I was in a rough place. And Maverick City Music’s music saved my life – literally,” he stated.
Allen further highlighted meeting a member of Maverick City Music while stressing the genre’s importance. “And I got to meet Chandler [Moore] from Maverick City Music, and I told him that. … Every genre is important, but personally, there’s something special about Christian music that grounds me and takes me back to my roots, and kind of re-focuses me on where I need to be and what I need to do.”
The singer explained how being grounded in Christian faith ultimately benefited his career in music, emphasizing placing your trust in God and patience. “It took me 10 and a half years to get a record deal in Nashville. And without patience, it wouldn’t have happened,” Jimmie said, noting that he lets “God fight the battle.”
Allen discussed the importance of setting aside one’s own desire to take control of life and instead submitting to God’s will. He continued, “Because a lot of times, we want to step in there and help Him, and the only thing we’re doing is getting in His way.”
Jimmie Allen has exploded in popularity, performing with household names such as Keith Urban, Brad Paisley, and Little Big Town. Some of his most popular songs include Pray, Best Shot, Freedom was a Highway, and Deserve to Be. Allen is set to join Carrie Underwood this fall for the “Denim and Rhinestones” tour.
