A 33-year-old actress and musician publicly revealed a shocking breast cancer diagnosis and hoped other young women would take heed in her sudden medical journey to remain healthy and vigilant against a similar fate. Jillian Cardarelli, who currently stars in ‘Crossroad Springs’ on Christianity’s Great American Family cable channel and has received accolades for her country music dating back to 2014, opened up on social media and interviews after receiving her life-altering news.
For context, Cardarella’s musical career took off in 2014 in her early 20s after releasing ‘Worth the Whiskey.’ That single earned her a nomination from the Independent Music Awards. Just a few years later, she was named by Rolling Stone magazine as one of the top ten country music artists worth knowing. She also earned the distinction for her 2020 hit ‘Strong’ that landed her on a list for one of ‘2020’s Most Powerful Songs.’ She made her acting debut in 2025 on the aforementioned ‘Crossroad Springs.’
However, fate would take a different turn when, in June of 2026, she was diagnosed with breast cancer. Specifically, stage 2 invasive ductal carcinoma. According to medical documents, this is an early and more curable form in that it has not yet grown or spread too far from the breast tissue. Writing on her Instagram account shortly after visiting doctors, she used her cancer and platform to spread awareness in the hopes it might help someone else.
“I was recently diagnosed with breast cancer at 33 years old,” she began on Instagram. “If breast cancer can happen to an otherwise healthy young woman with no family history of breast cancer, negative genetic testing, and 7 years before routine screening is recommended, it can happen to anyone.”
Continuing, she entrusted women to follow their instincts and know their bodies well enough to detect a change in how they feel to seek medical attention. “My hope is that sharing this journey encourages other young women to get familiar with their bodies, trust their instincts, advocate for themselves, and never ignore something if it feels off,” she wrote.
“While this diagnosis has challenged me in every way imaginable, it has never shaken my faith. I don’t have all the answers yet, and I know the road ahead will continue to evolve, but I’m taking it one step at a time and trusting God. Through it all, I still wake up every day grateful for the gift of another day,” she added, leaning on her faith.
“I’m incredibly thankful for my husband, family, and friends, who have walked alongside me every step of the way. As for my parents, I hit the parent lottery, to say the least. I also feel incredibly blessed to be surrounded by a medical team I trust implicitly,” she went on. You know your body better than anyone. Trust your instincts and remember: you are the CEO of your own health.”
Cardarelli also spoke with People magazine, sharing how her entire world turned upside down in the moments after getting hit with the news of her health. “One minute you’re focused on filming schedules, scripts, music and everything,” she says. “And the next thing is doctors, scans, pathology reports and words I’d never even … I feel like I’m learning a new language,” she said in the interview.
She also went into more detail about what she would be dealing with and how she felt when first going in. “I’ve had areas in my breasts that have been diagnosed with dense fibrous tissue since I was 25 years old that I’ve been getting looked at by ultrasound a couple of times, but nothing was ever seen. But then, I felt something a little different to me. I knew my body. I was a little more tired.”
A self-described ‘Energizer Bunny,’ Cardarella noticed something wasn’t right when she needed naps to just get through normal routines. She then noticed a lump on her breast and decided to get it looked at. “It was in an area of very dense tissue and I remember thinking, ‘Maybe I’m in my head a little bit. But something in my gut was like, ‘This feels a little bit different to me.’ That’s when I went and I got checked out and I found out that it was a malignant tumor.”
Once again, she also leaned on faith to help her through the challenging ordeal. “I feel fear and sadness. I’m like, why did this happen? I do not fit the profile of somebody that should get cancer at 33 years old. So yes, there’s a little bit of anger there. But I’m not angry at God. I’m leaning on Him more than ever,” she noted.
As with her social media post encouraging others to seek help when something doesn’t feel right and confront health issues such as hers early and head on, she reiterated the same thing to People.
“I do trust that something good will come from this. My hope is that young women hear my story and understand the importance of knowing their bodies, trusting their instincts and advocating for themselves. If sharing my story encourages even one young woman to advocate for herself, listen to her body, or get checked sooner, then I believe there is purpose in this,” she finished.
