Rodeo star Spencer Wright and his wife Kallie are praying for a “miracle” to save their son Levi after he was found unconscious drowned in a creek. According to local media reports, Levi was driving his toy tractor when it fell over in a creek in Utah, and he was caught in the stream and carried a mile down the stream, drowning. Now, they are praying for a miracle and hoping they don’t have to end care for Levi.
Fortunately, it appears there has been something of a miracle already, as Kallie announced on Facebook that he woke up. She wrote, “LEVI WOKE UP! I am shook, we don’t know much but the doctor said it was okay for me to get excited about that and I AM! My baby is so tough! 😭😭 He got a little wild so we had to settle him down again but my heart! 😭🙏🏼❤️”
She later added, “Just to clarify, Levi waking up doesn’t mean he’s fully coherent or talking or anything like that. Just that he opened his eyes for a period of time, wiggled with purpose and less like just a reflex as before. We still have a very long and tremendous road ahead of us, full of unknowns. Spencer and I felt like he knew we were there and could hear us. He’s been pretty sedated since then but has still had small periods of awakeness. He actually woke up during us talking to one of the doctors about his love of excavators and tractors! He’s about to leave for his MRI and my guess is we won’t know much for a few hours on that! I’ve been singing the excavator song and big green tractor to him and we talked about some of the things we are going to do when he breaks out of here! Your prayers have moved mountains but we still need a few more! It humbles me to see Levi bring so many people together, to be the reason we are reminded of what really matters in life and to remember that GOD IS REAL! 🙏🏼❤️ #TRexStrong”
Family friend and spokesperson Mindy Sue Clark posted about the matter on Facebook as well, providing additional information and saying that, with Levi waking up despite the drowning and long time in the hospital, she is “in awe of God’s work, and how tough Levi is!” Continuing, she said that his big leaps forward are “nothing short of miracles” and “an amazing gift to witness this in real-time.”
Those are huge leaps forward as, just days before, they thought that they would have to take Levi off of life support, with Clark announcing, “Levi’s heart is beating on its own, he has a will to breathe but his sweet little brain was without oxygen too long and there is no coming back from that. We cuddled him all night and feel strongly that his spirit is no longer with us. We can’t be selfish and drag this out for days, he doesn’t deserve that. Shortly we will stop care and hold him close until his last breath on earth. My Baby, my beans, Mom & Dad love you always and forever!”
However, the doctor encouraged the family to give him more time, a decision that led to them waking up. The family said in a statement, “Our doctor was a little taken aback by her exam as they came in the room to end care. She felt strongly that we needed to give him more time. Now this doesn’t mean that in 12 hours we won’t be right back in the same position with him in my arms preparing for goodbye but it does mean we have time for a miracle. … Don’t give up on my boy just yet.”
Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association CEO Tom Glause said, speaking about the horrible tragedy, “The entire ProRodeo community’s heart aches for the Wright family.” He continued, “We will continue to hold them in our thoughts and prayers.”
