In a recent interview at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), Vice President JD Vance explained his faith and the gospel. Vance has been public about his faith for years, but this clip offers insight into the Vice President’s view of God. Online reaction was very positive, with many commentators expressing their support for Vance.
“It’s not just a set of good moral principles… the Son of God became man, he died, and then he raised himself from the dead. That is the fundamental tenet of the Christian faith,” the catholic Vance, told CPAC host Mercedes Schlapp. “I think one lesson that flows from that is that we shouldn’t fear death… There are much more terrible things than just losing one’s life…you could lose one’s soul.”
He also adressed masculinity. “Our culture sends a message to young men that you should suppress every masculine urge,” he added. “My message to young men is, don’t allow this broken culture to send you a message that you’re a bad person because you’re a man or because you like to tell a joke, because you like to have a beer with your friends, or because you’re competitive.”
The VP said mainstream culture “wants to turn everybody, whether male or female, into androgynous idiots who think the same, talk the same and act the same.” “We actually think God made male and female for a purpose,” he continued. “We want you guys to thrive as young men and as young women, and we’re going to help with our public policy to make it possible to do that.”
“It’s not just a set of good moral principles… the Son of God became man, he died, and then he raised himself from the dead. That is the fundamental tenet of the Christian faith,” he concluded. The online response was positive. “I’m so relieved that we have two men of God in office, and not the atheists Kamala Harris & Tim Walz. This country was about to go down a very dark path, and it was only by the grace of God that we avoided it,” one account reacted.
“So refreshing. We are blessed beyond all measure to be sons and daughters of our Almighty King. Sealed. Death need not be feared,” another added. “When @JDVance talks about God, I believe that he believes with all his heart. He isn’t using God as a political pawn. It’s refreshing. I would love to have a conversation with him about it. I hope he meets with the brethren one day,” quoted one user.
In the past, Vance has spoken at length about his faith. “While I really believed and I believed quite passionately. There was something a little bit shallow about my faith when I was a kid. And so like a lot of kids, you know, I went off to the military, to college to law school, and somewhere along the way, that faith that had developed and was germinating sort of evaporated. And so by the time that I was in law school, I started to call myself an atheist.”

However, the Vice President explained how he eventually came back to Christ. “But to me, what really brought me back to Christ was finding a wife and falling in love and thinking about my thinking about what was required of me as a husband and as a father, and the more that I thought about those deeper questions, the more that I thought that there were, there was wisdom In the Christian faith that I had completely discarded and completely ignored, but was most relevant to the questions that were presented in my life as a husband and father.”
