Vice President JD Vance perfectly met the moment while addressing a Wisconsin crowd on the day after a deadly school shooting that claimed the loves of two precious children. The second Catholic to ever hold the office, Vance invited everyone in attendance to join him in a short, emotional prayer to remember and honor the departed children.
The prayer led those in attendance and those watching the clip later to break down in tears. It also prompted many others to joyfully remark that this is what a future president looks and sounds like. And while politics must often be set aside to grieve together, the moment could not be seen without comparing the response of former White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki’s horrific rant about the meaninglessness of ‘thoughts and prayers” after tragedy struck.
Vance’s presence on stage and command of the audience with his faithful remarks captured the attention of everyone. Silence filled the auditorium as he invited those who were “the praying type” to join him in prayer. “If you are the praying type. I would ask you to join me in prayer,” the vice president began.
“I’m just going to say a prayer for the two little kids who who lost their lives yesterday. And this is a prayer we say a lot in my church, and I’ve always found it very meaningful. It’s very short, but eternal rest. Grant unto them, oh Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. May the souls of all the faithful departed through the mercy of God. Rest in peace. Amen. Thank you all,” he concluded.
Watch that powerful moment below:
As alluded to earlier, it was impossible not to notice the clarion distinction between the America First – often Christian – right and the secularists inhabiting the Democrat Party. Whereas Vance repeatedly defended and engaged in prayer, it was the aforementioned Psaki who derided the notion of praying. Fellow Democrat Jacob Frey, the woke mayor of Minneapolis, went further and insultingly mocked that the kids were already praying when the shooter attacked, insinuating prayer is useless.
Writing on X, a vitriolic post from Psaki that garnered over 3 million views at time of writing stated: “Prayer is not freaking enough. Prayers does not end school shootings. prayers do not make parents feel safe sending their kids to school. Prayer does not bring these kids back. Enough with the thoughts and prayers.”
In response to that, Vance quote-tweeted a perfect reply. He wrote, “We pray because our hearts are broken. We pray because we know God listens. We pray because we know that God works in mysterious ways, and can inspire us to further action. Why do you feel the need to attack other people for praying when kids were just killed praying?
He then continued with a second comment, writing again, “Of all the weird left wing culture wars in the last few years, this is by far the most bizarre. “How dare you pray for innocent people in the midst of tragedy?!” What are you even talking about?”
