Vice President JD Vance and former DOGE mastermind Elon Musk took to social media to sharply criticize the vile desecration of England’s oldest, and indeed one of the world’s most iconic, cathedrals and houses of worship. The duo highlighted both the anti-western sentiment and irony of what art from so-called marginalized communities looks like and accomplishes.
For context, Canterbury had only recently appointed a new archbishop, its first woman ever to hold the position, just a week before the display euphemistically referred to as art was presented to tourists and worshippers alike. Sarah Mullally ascended to the highest ranks on October 3rd by appointment, and while the display had likely been in designs for some time, presided over the backlash that ensued.
The ‘simulated graffiti’ was presented as part of a woke campaign and featured decals and stickers in the form of spray paint, posing questions such as “What is the architecture of heaven?” and “Why are you indifferent to suffering? and “What would you ask God?” and “Why did you create hate when love is by far more powerful?”
The curator of art at the cathedral, which is apparently a real position, described the purpose of the anti-Christian displays on Instagram, mustering as much woke pablum as possible in a concisely unreadable manner:
“By collaborating with marginalized communities – including the Punjabi, black and brown diaspora, neurodivergent individuals, and the LGBTQIA+ population – the exhibition promotes inclusivity and representation. It transforms the cathedral into a space where diverse voices can be heard, validating their experiences and fostering a sense of belonging. In a society that often silences these communities, “HEAR US” creates a platform for dialogue and expression.”
As a nominally Christian cathedral, one might ask why it is the church’s job to include those with whom biblical teachings are not meant to tolerate; instead, the church could hold everyone to the same standard and teach of God’s love in a traditional way. If these people need validation, they can find it in no short supply throughout the rest of the woke left’s stranglehold on society. What’s more, given the vast amount of Muslim immigration to the United Kingdom, one wonders if these same woke activists would be courageous enough to desecrate a mosque in similar fashion.
Setting those musings aside, Vance and Musk wasted no time calling out the absurdly woke attempt to mock Christianity and tear down the remaining vestiges of greatness within western civilization. Writing on Musk’s X, JD Vance called out the irony of marginalized communities. “It is weird to me that these people don’t see the irony of honoring “marginalized communities” by making a beautiful historical building really ugly,” he wrote.
And Musk offered his own reaction, Relentless anti-Western propaganda has made so many people in the West want to suicide their own culture. Unfortunately, propaganda works,” he commented under a post that garnered nearly 9 million views.
The post to which Musk replied perfectly summarized the entire farce witnessed at Canterbury. “The Church of England decided this week to cover the interior of the oldest cathedral in England in graffiti in order to represent the voices of ‘marginalised communities,’” it began.
“The Very Rev David Monteith, Dean of Canterbury, said: ‘There is a rawness which is magnified by the graffiti style, which is disruptive. It is unfiltered and not sanitised. This exhibition intentionally builds bridges between cultures, styles and genres and allows us to receive the gifts of younger people who have much to say.’”
The post continued: “It’s actually stunning how much the elite of Britain hate their own culture and civilisation. You couldn’t even invent this as satire. They are literally scrawling graffiti on the walls of ancient cathedrals. Everything beautiful is just torn down and destroyed.”
