Legendary country singer John Rich recently addressed the cultural deterioration that has plagued the West over the past few decades. Rich claimed that the church’s inability to take action and influence culture in a manner that would honor God is to blame for the decline.
“We are just overrun by all this wickedness everywhere you turn,” the country singer said. Rich maintained that Christians have to stand up and defend their faith in the face of a culture that has all but rejected Christianity. He stressed that the church can no longer afford to sit on the sidelines.
“I think it’s because we, as Christians, have just stood around and let this stuff go, and, to a certain extent, have been involved in a lot of it. By not pushing back on it, not calling it out, me included, all of us, you become complicit with what’s going on. I don’t think there’s any more time to do that. I really don’t. I think we’re at a breaking point now. You better stand up, and you better be heard, because it feels like we’re on the edge of going over the edge,” he continued.
“I saw the extent of the lies that were being perpetrated on people, the threats that were coming down on people: ‘If you don’t do this, then we’re going to do this to you,’ I mean, real tyranny breaking out in the United States of America, land of the free and home of the brave,” he said. “Here we are looking right at it, and I realized we’re a lot closer to the bad stuff happening than I realized.”
Rich further emphasized how disillusioned he became with society given the events that have unfolded over the past few years. “I think when you see the unchecked wickedness that’s going on out there in the world, for instance, Super Bowl halftime shows with just blatant satanism on the stage, or you see some of the biggest pop acts in the world, and they’re out in front of these football stadiums of 80,000 people at a time, holding seances, showing up dressed like demons — it’s Sodom and Gomorrah right in your face. And we’re all just horrified by it, as we should be. But who’s gonna actually do something to counter that?” he asked.
The Christian Tribune reported on a recent song Rich released titled “Revelation” which was inspired by the last book of the Bible. Rich felt inspired to warn people of the realities of spiritual warfare and the coming judgment of mankind.
“The real war is not Trump and Biden, the real war is not left and right, the real war is not a culture war. It says in Ephesians, ‘We wrestle not with flesh and blood but with principalities and powers and the rulers of spiritual darkness of this Earth, of this world.’ That is the battle; that’s the real battle,” he said.
He continued, “When God says about Himself, ‘I am the same yesterday, today and forever, my Word does not change.” We change, culture changes, the world changes, but He doesn’t. So, however, He dealt with things all the way back to the beginning of the written Word is exactly how He’s going to deal with them now and into the future. That is something people don’t want to come to grips with.”
