Recently, hall of fame NFL coach Tony Dungy called out Vice President Kamala Harris after she posted a message on X about her stance on abortion rights intertwined with faith. Harris has been a staunch advocate of abortion on the campaign trail ahead of the election.
According to Vice President Harris, promoting abortion is not incongruent with one’s faith, seemingly ignoring Christian teaching on the issue. “One does not have to abandon their faith or deeply held beliefs to agree: The government, and certainly Donald Trump, should not be telling a woman what to do with her body,” she posted on X.
Among the massive criticism of this statement, Dungy, who has been outspoken about his Christian faith, offered a brilliant biblically based rebuttal to the post from Harris. Citing scripture, the legendary coach pointed out that unborn babies are created in the image of God and that they deserve to be treated with dignity while questioning what “faith” Harris was talking about.
“Dear VP Harris: I hear you make this statement all the time. Exactly what “faith” are you talking about when you
say you don’t have to abandon it to support abortion? Are you talking about the Christian faith that says all babies are made in the image of God (Gen 1:26), that God places them in the womb (Jer 1:5) and that we should not take any life unjustly (Luke 18:20)? Are you talking about that faith or some nebulous, general “faith” that says we’re good enough, and smart enough to make our own decisions? What “faith” are you talking about?” he
posted in response.
The Christian Tribune reported on other examples of Christian backlash to the Harris-Walz campaign, where data suggests that Democrats are increasingly losing the religious vote, even being deemed the “anti-Christian” party by some critics.
Catholic League President Bill Donohue
claimed, “They’re anti-Christian, and it’s driving people out…And the guys I’m talking to, it’s not even so much abortion. It’s just they feel like they don’t speak their language anymore. This whole idea of letting men compete against women in sports abuses the bathrooms, they think they’ve just gone off the deep end.”
“Kamala Harris hates Catholics and everything we hold sacred. We can’t pretend otherwise. Our institutions, families, culture and belief in the sanctity of all human life are the antithesis of her vision for America. Donald Trump and JD Vance — and now RFK — are the antidote to the ruling class that has destroyed our country,” CatholicVote President Brian Burch said in a Trump campaign press release.
In contrast, former President Donald Trump has been campaigning hard for Christians. During a faith-based conference earlier this year, Trump said, “I hope we’ll be defending them side by side for your next four years. These are going to be your years, because you’re going to make a comeback like just about no other group. I know what’s happening. I know where you’re coming from and where you’re going, and I’ll be with you side by side. So again, thank you once again for everything you do. And you have to get out and vote. Our religious leaders have to get their incredible people that love them so much and respect them so much. Have to get them out to vote,”
