Vice President Kamala Harris recently made a shocking claim regarding her stance on abortion, where she claimed she would make no “concessions” even in the case where it would conflict with religious beliefs. Harris has already faced substantial backlash for her stance on protecting abortion.
While sitting down for an interview with NBC News, host Hallie Jackson asked Harris about her stance on abortion, “What concessions would be on the table? Religious exemptions for example, is that something you would consider?” The vice president responded, “I don’t think we should be making concessions when we are talking about a fundamental freedom to make decisions about your own body.”
Subsequently, Christians on social media reacted to Harris’s statement, appalled by her intention to force the practice of abortion. The Center for Baptist Leadership wrote on X, “Absolutely chilling: Kamala Harris says that she does not believe in religious exemptions for abortion. This means that all Christian hospitals, healthcare providers, businesses, etc., would be forced to provide/cover abortion if she got her way. It would be the end of the First Amendment and religious liberty as we know it.”
The Baptist group continued in another post, “Shockingly, there are many professed “Evangelical Christians” who openly support this.” The organization added, “Evangelicals for Harris have “traded in the cross of Christ for the transgender flag and the call to defend the unborn for the satanic sacrament of abortion.”
Others commented in agreement, voicing their concerns with Harris’ stance on abortion. “Kamala Harris comes out and says she does not believe in religious liberty exemptions for abortion. This is a five alarm fire for religious liberty in America. This would mean that all Christian and Catholic hospitals would be forced to perform abortions against their conscience and beliefs, violating their First Amendment rights,” executive director at the Center for Baptist Leadership William Wolfe wrote.
“Nothing else matters to Kamala Harris. The economy can be in the toilet, the world will be burning, and the entire earth would be streaming into the US through the Southern Border, but all she’d care about is the right of women to kill their babies, born or unborn,” another person wrote.
“I hope the Christian right has the stomach for staunch, widespread non-compliance if Harris is elected. The pressure that will be exerted from the highest levels of government will make the covid mandates look like a walk in the park,” another person pointed out, highlighting the call for Christians to disobey the government if asked to disobey God.
“It will be the end of the First Amendment covering freedom of speech, as well. She has stated that “hate speech” is not covered by it. But, as we know, the First Amendment was specifically designed to protect “speech we hate.” As Jefferson, Madison and others have said, without free speech, there can be no democracy, “another person warned, highlighting the implications of Harris’ statement.
