Former First Lady Melania Trump recently sparked backlash after she voiced her support for abortion in her upcoming memoir. Melania’s stance has sparked division among Republican voters, particularly the Christian vote.
Melania explained in her memoir that she believes it is a “fundamental right” for a woman to be able to have an abortion if she chooses. The former first lady explained that she has maintained this belief throughout adulthood.
“Why should anyone other than the woman herself have the power to determine what she does with her own body? A woman’s fundamental right of individual liberty to her own life grants her the authority to terminate her pregnancy if she wishes,” Melania said. “Restricting a woman’s right to choose whether to terminate an unwanted pregnancy is the same as denying her control over her own body. I have carried this belief with me throughout my entire adult life.”
“It’s a very straightforward concept; in fact, we are all born with a set of fundamental rights, including the right to enjoy our lives,” she added in her book. “We are all entitled to maintain a gratifying and dignified existence. This common-sense approach applies to a woman’s natural right to make decisions about her own body and health.”
Despite Melania’s take on abortion that is at odds with Christian values, former President Donald Trump has campaigned hard for the Christian vote as the election approaches. The Christian Tribune previously reported on Trump’s comments at the Danbury Institute’s Life & Liberty Forum, where he promised Christian voters that they would make a comeback under his leadership.
“Hello to everyone at the Danbury Institute and to all of the wonderful pastors and faith leaders, very respected people gathered for the Southern Baptist Convention, annual meeting. That’s a big deal. I want to thank each and every one of you for your tremendous devotion to God and the country and your tremendous support of me and I hope I’ve earned it, because we’ve done things that nobody thought were possible to have gotten done,” Trump said at the forum.
“These are difficult times for our nation, and your work is so important we can’t afford to have anyone sit on the sidelines. Now is the time for us to all pull together and to stand up for our values and for our freedoms, and you just can’t vote Democrat,” Trump added, urging Christian voters to vote Republican for the sake of their values.
The former president continued, “They’re against religion. They’re against your religion. In particular, you cannot vote for Democrats, and you have to get out and vote. We have to defend religious liberty, free speech, innocent life, and the heritage and tradition that built America into the greatest nation in the history of the world. But now we are, as you know, a declining nation. And I might add, we are a seriously declining nation, seriously, seriously and so said, I know that each of you is protecting those values every day.”
“I hope we’ll be defending them side by side for your next four years. These are going to be your years, because you’re going to make a comeback like just about no other group. I know what’s happening. I know where you’re coming from and where you’re going, and I’ll be with you side by side. So again, thank you once again for everything you do. And you have to get out and vote. Our religious leaders have to get their incredible people that love them so much and respect them so much. Have to get them out to vote,” he concluded.
