“Modern-Day Christian Saint”: Charlie Kirk Heaped Praise For Evangelism, Heroism As Memory Honored By MAGA Movement

Former Trump senior advisor and host of the wildly popular War Room podcast Steve Bannon called Charlie Kirk a “modern day saint” in a touching tribute to the fallen American patriot as the country and political movement he helped start still comes to terms with his shocking assassination on a Utah college campus.

Though few readers need a reminder, Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk – a man who embodied the notion of God, family, country – was assassinated while speaking on a Utah college campus by 22-year-old Tyler Robinson. More information has since come out that Robinson was seemingly in a relationship with a young person in the process of transitioning and engaged in some of the most radical online discussions related to the transgender movement.

“I would argue that Charlie Kirk is a modern day Christian saint, flat out, right, flat out. I think you make the argument very compelling, not just, not just American hero and patriot, but a modern day Christian saint and a martyr to his faith,” the podcaster declared a little over a week after Kirk’s death.

He also implored followers and supporters to keep their memory and message of the fallen warrior simple. There was no need to exaggerate what Kirk believed in, stood for, and fought for. “But please, please, please, please, please, do not. Don’t smear his legacy. Don’t smear his what Charlie Kirk was and what he stood for, what he gave his life for, bravely by doing an artificial intelligence, Charlie from beyond the grave talking to you. No, sir, no sir, no, sir, no, sir. Charlie Kirk does not need that.

“The memory of Charlie Kirk does not need that Charlie Kirk can live forever in our hearts and can live forever in the history of this country if we finish what he started in,” Bannon finished in a clip posted to social media.

And Steve Bannon was not alone in his view. Cardinal Timothy Dolan, appearing on Fox News, made a similar argument when he joined the Fox and Friends crew to discuss Kirk’s legacy. Among other things, he compared him to a modern-day St. Paul, a missionary, an evangelist, and a hero.

“So when I heard the tragic news, I said, I wonder who he was. And then all of a sudden, this overwhelming, this overwhelming sense of sorrow and kind of renewal, and I thought I got to learn about this guy. And the more I learned about him, I thought this guy is a modern day St Paul. He was a missionary. He’s an evangelist. He’s a hero,” Cardinal Dolan explained.

He continued: “He’s one I think that knew what Jesus meant when he said, The truth will set you free and to do it. No, I understand. He was pretty blunt and he was pretty direct. He didn’t try to avoid any controversy. He didn’t even try to avoid confrontation. The difference is the way, the mode, the style that he did. It always with respect. And not only was that a gracious, kind of virtuous thing to do, it’s effective, because when your opponents see this guy kind of respects me.”

“We kind of disagree here, but he kind of enjoys me, and he’s thanking me for being here, and he’s telling me he appreciates the trust I have in him in sharing my views. I thought this guy can teach us something. I’ve been spending the last week reading about him, and so last night, I was at NYU Catholic Student Center. About 200 students there. This is what they talked about. This is what they talked about,” the cardinal concluded.
