For a few brief seconds, users on social media were able to forget about the latest political narratives they were supposed to believe as a video of a boy “rocking those steps” went viral. The boy, far older than most children who learn to walk on account of an undisclosed disability, could proudly be seen moving from one end of his living room to another as a jubilant mother recorded his efforts.

The video, just fourteen seconds in length, no doubt reminded every parent the joys of raising. There is nothing greater than watching your child learn and grow, and as this clip quite literally showed, watching them take their first steps into a larger world. Mom’s reaction was every parent’s reaction, but the child stole the stage with his beaming smile and hard-earned pride glowing on his face.

The boy’s steps are perhaps more rewarding, as many parents take for granted having a healthy baby and a “normal” progression through milestones. A viewing of this clip should serve as a powerful reminder that we can take nothing for granted; even a healthy child today could present with life-altering conditions the next day. But watching a boy with disabilities overcome those obstacles is nothing short of emotionally moving.

Take a look at the incredible moment when a proud mom and even prouder son bond over his incredible success:

The original post of the video came from the Christian handle LifeNews.com, which captioned the video saying “Disabled boy is rocking those steps! And that smile!” Indeed, the rocking of the steps, in conjunction with the huge smile, won both this author over as well as the scores of comments underneath the post. Many users provided comments such as “Sweet,” “Wonderful,” and “Wholesome.”

Others added more depth, with one user writing, “Great job! Not easy to do. You will be out running the neighborhood in no time. Why I bet you even outrun people on bicycles! Go to it, big guy!” With perseverance such as was demonstrated in the video, we can only hope the young man continues mastering his walking and balance and goes on to achieve other incredible breakthroughs and milestones.

Another comment focused on the smile, noting how proud the young boy was. “He’s getting there. Love seeing the pride he has when he makes it. So touching to see him not giving up.” And arguably the most thought-provoking comment came from another user who pondered the nature of disabilities in general. “‘Disabled’ – yet a force of will that would eviscerate most of us. On balance – with all things considered – who are the disabled ones?”
