A pastor at the church of the missing Nancy Guthrie asked congregants to keep her in their prayers as he offered an appeal to God to hep return the 84-year-old woman safely back home. Pastor John Tittle, of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church in Tucson, leaned into the faith of his flock as the days continue to add up in the search for the mother of long-time news anchor Savannah Guthrie.
For context, Nancy Guthrie has been missing since February 1st. Pima County sheriff Chris Nanos said early in the investigation and search for her that a crime scene did in fact exist, and since then the leading story has that a ransom was demanded for her return, though little else is known and multiple deadlines have passed despite the family being willing to pay.
What’s more, Donald Trump has made federal agencies available to the family’s and local law enforcements’ disposal to help track down her whereabouts. Speaking about a crime scene as opposed to a disappearance, Nanos added: “We do in fact have a crime scene…She did not leave on her own. We know that,” the sheriff declared at a press conference.
Pastor Tittle said he has continued to ask congregants to pray for her return during, using the pulpit on his Sunday worship services to honor what the family has asked for during what can only be described as a “horrific ordeal.”
Addressing his congregation, he let it be known that part of the family’s wishes were to continue reaching out for heavenly grace and intervention. “It was communicated to me, pray. So we’re gonna keep praying through this horrific ordeal,” the Arizona pastor said.
“We pray for Nancy’s rescue and her release. Bring her home safely,” his prayer went, adding that local law enforcement could use all the help they could get too: “Lord God bless and guide the authorities in their search for Nancy. Give them wisdom along every step of the path to her.”
The pastor continued, “Lord, we ask that you would soften the hearts of those who are responsible, that they might come forward and do what is humane. And what is right.”
Of course, the prayer followed in the footsteps of both the Guthrie family’s own requests as well as their own initiatives. Daughter Savannah Guthrie posted an emotional plea to Instagram seeking thoughts and prayers from her online community.
Guthrie took to social media to seek help from her followers, sharing they believed in the power of prayer and asked that more voices speak out as they searched for her missing mother. “We believe in prayer. We believe in voices raised in unison, in love, in hope. We believe in goodness. We believe in humanity. Above all, we believe in Him,” the news host wrote on Instagram.
Going on, Guthrie wrote that she was appreciative of the broad support she received from her community. “Thank you for lifting your prayers with ours for our beloved mom, our dearest Nancy, a woman of deep conviction, a good and faithful servant. raise your prayers with us and believe with us that she will be lifted by them in this very moment. We need you,” the post further wrote.
Reaching the end of her post, Guthrie shared a pertinent Bible verse, with a brief passage from the Old Testament. “‘He will keep in perfect peace those whose hearts are steadfast, trusting in the Lord.’ A verse of Isaiah for all time for all of us. Bring her home,” she finished solemnly.
