It’s been quite a year for 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy. He hot on the heels of a nail-biter of a Super Bowl, was married to his college sweetheart on Saturday, March 9 at a church in Des Moines. The couple had been engaged for seven months before getting married. Their marriage is one that Mr. Purdy says he wants their marriage to be Christ-centered.

Posting about the wedding on Instagram, Mr. Purdy’s beautiful bride, Jenna Purdy, posted a slew of photos and wrote, “Best day of our lives🤍 I get to call my best friend my HUSBAND for forever and ever!!!!” Replying in a comment, Mr. Purdy wrote, “I love you Mrs. Purdy❤️”

When he proposed seven months ago, Purdy wrote about Christ and focusing on Him on Instagram, saying, “My Jenna girl forever. I can’t wait to be your husband and grow together in Christ. Here’s to forever babe. I love you JB!” Similarly, Jenna wrote, “Brock Purdy – I love everything about you & your heart for Jesus more than any words can say.”

Purdy has spoken about his faith numerous times before. Speaking about praying during games, for example, he said,  “Yeah, I do. It’s not, ‘God, can we win here? Can we do something great here?’ It’s more just to have that peace, that steadfastness in all the chaos. That’s really what it is. It’s sinking back into, ‘Holy Spirit, take over and lead me here in this moment and allow me to think clearly, allow me to obviously go through my reads.’ Like I said, just have an even-keeled mind that I get from the Holy Spirit.”

He then said that Psalm 23 is one he recites frequently to remind him of what’s important, saying, “For me, playing this game, playing this sport, there’s a lot that goes into it and it’s easy to get wrapped up in wanting to be loved — obviously by your teammates but [also] the world. So for me in that passage, it’s talking about [how] I already have what I need from the Good Shepherd in Jesus.”

Commenting o n how he kicks off every day with the powerful passage, Purdy said, “I’ve just been studying Psalm 23 throughout the whole season, been going back to it. It’s what I start off with actually every single day; I just read off Psalm 23 to myself before I start off with some solitude, and then go about my day.”

Watch him here:

Psalm 23, one of the more famous Psalms, says, “The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths
for his name’s sake. Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.”
