Ohio State Running Back Explains How He Plays “for the Glory of the Lord”

Ohio State football star TreVeyon Henderson recently expressed how his faith in God drives his career in collegiate athletics.  According to the standout running back, he seeks to play “for the glory of the Lord.”  Alongside his teammates, Emeka Egbuka and Gee Scott Jr., Henderson recently interacted with fans and shared the Gospel.

The Buckeyes participated in an event at Upper Arlington High School in Columbus, Ohio, hosted by The Walk Foundation, which aims to “provide a platform for collegiate and professional athletes to share their faith in Jesus Christ to their communities and the world.”

Reportedly, over 700 people registered for the faith-based event.  Henderson illustrated that he views football as a gift from God that he excels at while simultaneously having a platform to spread the message of Jesus Christ.  “Football is a gift that God has allowed me to play, and He’s given me a platform to continue to spread the Word, spread the Gospel, and lead others to Him,” Henderson said. “That’s my purpose — to continue to play this game for the glory of the Lord.”

After coming off a powerful freshman season in 2021, where he had one of the best freshman seasons in Ohio State history, Henderson faced a significant injury to his foot.  As the running back had high expectations going into his sophomore season, it was extremely disappointing that he could only play eight games.]

Henderson explained how the predicament was a challenging point in his life, which ultimately served as an opportunity for change.  “At that time, I was building my life on the wrong foundation,” he said during an interview on “The Walk Podcast.” “I was living my life for the wrong things. I was living for football. I couldn’t see who I was outside of being a football player.”

The athlete stated that he felt God calling him to reevaluate his life, which ultimately led him to develop a personal relationship with the Lord. According to Henderson, his strength and conditioning coach, Kenny Parker, pushed him to read the New Testament and learn the truth about our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Henderson illustrated how, once he gave his life to Christ, his perspective on life drastically changed for the better.  He even explained how he prayed to be healed from years of sleep paralysis and it disappeared upon making his request to God.

He said, “When I turned to Him and accepted Him into my life, He changed me.  He filled me with this love that you can’t find nowhere else. You can’t find it in money. You can’t find it in women. You can’t find it in football. You can’t find it in your family members.”

As Henderson gears up for the next seasons with Ohio State, he maintains that he will do so to honor God.  “I never knew my identity in this world, I never knew my purpose, until I met the Lord,” Henderson confidently stated. “He gave me an identity. I’m His child, and He made me His child. He gave me a purpose, and that’s to live my life for Him.”  Watch his interview on The Walk Podcast below:
