In an incredible testament to the transformational grace of God, a formerly same-sex, transgender couple shared how Jesus changed their lives and helped them embrace their true identities, leading them to walk away from the LGBTQ lifestyle and turn to Christ.
For context, Nic and Lex Renick, who previously identified as a transgender male and a gay man, were married in May of 2020 and lived their lives deeply immersed in the LGBTQ community until they had a radical encounter with the life-changing message of the Gospel. When the pair shared their testimony with conservative commentator Michael Knowles, he described it as “one of the wildest stories I’ve ever heard.”
In an interview with Knowles, Lex shared that she grew up in an abusive household with parents who claimed to be Christians, which pushed her to find community in the LGBTQ world. Lex told Knowles that her mother once said, “If I would have known that you were going to be my child, I would have aborted you,” adding that when her family caused her so much pain, she found “the queer community, because they accepted me for me.”
Continuing, Lex explained that what she really needed at the time was “a loving body of believers…to wrap their arms around me and say, ‘Hey, we’re going to walk you through this journey.’ But all I faced was rejection.” Nic, on the other hand, explained that his family “didn’t condone or agree with what I was doing” while he was living as a gay man, adding, “That is the exact Christian model of how I feel we should address the community.”
Furthermore, Lex and Nic explained to Knowles that after getting married as a transgender male and a homosexual male, they found a church in Las Vegas with members who didn’t condone their lifestyle, but welcomed them and loved them. Lex explained, “They chose to love us. And that ministered to our hearts so much because we got to hang out with more believers and allow God to do the work on our hearts.”
In the same interview, Lex opened up about feeling misled by the “lie” of the LGBT community, saying, “The whole world in the queer community was saying, ‘Well, you know if God made you then God made you this way.'” She added, ” [But] that argument doesn’t work with the trans community. Because, if we say, ‘God made me this way,’ then that means that I should have been a woman.”
In an even more miraculous turn, Lex and Nic explained to Knowles that after they committed their lives to Christ, the couple experienced physical healing as well, with Lex explaining that a biopsy had revealed cancerous cells in her body, which then disappeared. She explained that a doctor had told her, “This doesn’t make possible physical sense, but you no longer have any cancerous cells in your body.”
After experiencing miraculous healing, the couple shared on Instagram that they now have “two miracle babies,” adding that they are “walking in the very calling we once only dreamed about.” They wrote, “What He’s done is beautiful. But what’s coming? Even greater.”
