Grace Community Church Pastor John MacArthur recently claimed that “true believers” in Christ would vote for former President Donald Trump in the upcoming presidential election, citing the radically-left, secular policies that the Democratic Party promotes. Christians have been at odds with the modern left due to the propagation of blatantly anti-Christian policies, such as gay marriage and abortion.
MacArthur recently spoke at the Christian college, Liberty University, where he recounted a phone call he had with Trump.“He called me after the Sunday morning service and he was very gracious and said, ‘I just want to thank you for taking a stand. Church is essential, and I’m glad you’re doing what you’re doing,’” the pastor said.
The Christian leader then outlined how he and the former president took a firm stance on why, from a biblical basis, Christians could not vote for the Democratic Party in light of the contradictory values the party promotes. “There’s no way that a Christian can affirm the slaughter of babies, homosexual activity, homosexual marriage, or any kind of gross immorality,” MacArthur asserted.
MacArthur continued, “No way we could stand behind a candidate who was affirming transgender behavior, which of course is really the ‘reprobate mind’ of Romans 1.” He added that he emphasized to Trump that the topic abortion and LGBT “aren’t even political of us,” but rather “these things are biblical; these things are laid down by the Word of God.”
The Grace Community Church pastor further told Trump that “any real” believers in Christ are on his side on this basis. “I said [to Trump] ‘any real, true believer is going to be on your side in this election,’ because it’s not just an individual, it’s an entire set of policies that Christians cannot in any way affirm,” he said.
The Christian Tribune previously reported on other politically charged comments from Pastor MacArthur, in which he called out the moral degeneracy being promoted through the Biden administration. The pastor addressed the social platform promoted by the administration as well as the problems within Biden’s own family.
“There’s a sense in which God takes His hand of blessing off that society. When He gives them up, it means he gives them up to the consequences of their choices. If you follow that pattern, what you get is Joe Biden, who is the epitome of all those things that I just talked about,” he said, while simultaneously claiming immorality is running “rampant in his [Biden’s] own family at an epic level.”
MacArthur continued discussing the issue of sexual immorality that is pervasive in Western society. “That’s part of it. And then advocating for homosexuality and then saying he supports all the transgender nonsense. He is what you get when you go down the Romans [chapter] one path because this is, in itself, is a kind of divine judgment,” he added.
He stressed that the only way to reverse course is to bring the Gospel back into society. “Is there a way back? There is a way back if we return to the Word of God, if we proclaim the Gospel, if people turn to Christ — you can’t change a culture any other way than to change hearts, change hearts from the inside out, and that’s where the church has to step in,” he stated.
