Lucy Pat Curl, the Wife of a beloved pastor at First Baptist Orlando Church, succumbed to her injuries and passed away on February 10. She was fatally hurt when Ronald D. Davis broke into her home in January. After the man beat her with a vase, he stole jewelry and a coin collection. She is survived by four children, eleven grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
An update posted by her daughter read, “Lucy Pat Redding Curl went to meet her Lord Jesus on February 5, 2025, at 85 years of age. She lived in Orlando, Florida, and is survived by her husband, Bill Curl, and her children, Beth Menendez (Pete), Philip Curl (Miriam), Carol Rickman (Mark), and Scott Curl (Crystal). ” The statement also offered an insight into her character and faith.
“She and her husband Bill spent their lives serving their Lord Jesus as pastor and Wife and as missionaries overseas in Great Britain. They were appointed by the International Mission Board as missionaries in 1990 and served abroad for 18 years. In everything they did, they loved people well,” said the post. Orlando police published a summary of the incident before her passing.
“The victim’s husband arrived home to find his wife severely battered inside their vehicle in the garage, pressing the horn for help,” Orlando PD posted to Facebook. ” He immediately called 911. He reported that an unknown Black male had forcibly entered their home and brutally attacked his elderly Wife. She was transported to Orlando Regional Medical Center, where she remains in critical condition.”
“Detectives identified the suspect as Ronald D. Davis, BM, DOB 11/26/69. He was found sleeping inside a shed on a residential property a few miles from the victim’s residence,” authorities said. ” Davis had recently been released from prison in June 2024 after serving a 15-year concurrent sentence for Burglary of a Dwelling with Assault and Battery, as well as Robbery.”
After Curl passed, police announced, “Ronald D. Davis is now facing the additional charge of First Degree Murder in the Commission of a Home Invasion.” In another statement from the family, they explained their reaction to the event. “On Tuesday Lucy Pat was taken off life support. She went on to Heaven early this morning. We rejoice that she is no longer in pain,” they said.
The family added, “The circumstances of her passing are shocking and abrupt, and not what we would have expected or chosen. But as our Lord has forgiven us, we are asked to forgive each other. ” The same post featured an explanation from her husband. “At one point, Bill (her husband) took her picture before the results of the attack had been cleaned up. When asked what he would do with a picture like that, he responded, “I’m going to show it to the man who did this to her,” he said.
Watch Bill Curl memorialize his Wife:
He concluded by explaining, “Then I’m going to forgive him. I refuse to let his actions dictate who I am.” So we would ask for you to do the same. ” In a sermon he gave shortly after the attack, Bill Curl said, “Why did he choose her? Why? Why did it happen? I don’t know,” Uth said. “I wish I could stand here and tell you, but I don’t know. . . . You just look up and go, ‘God, she’s one of your finest, she’s one of the best.’”
