Pete Hegseth released a powerful ‘Commander’s Prayer’ on social media that he used to reinforce the Trump administration’s continued focus on Christian faith and efforts to revitalize both the military and the nation.
For context, the formerly-titled Secretary of Defense (now the Secretary of War) released the almost two-minute prayer in August of 2025 as major changes continued developing under new leadership within the military. Gone now are DEI-intense contracts and subcontracts; gone too are disastrous military failures seen under the Biden administration with debacles like the withdrawal from Afghanistan.
In their place are examples of American military might and superiority. Such was seen in the summer of 2025 when Donald Trump executed a perfect precision strike on Iran’s nuclear facilities, when a fleet of stealth bombers eliminated a threat within the span of a day. No further conflict escalated.
The same could be said of the more recent capture of Venezuela’s president, seen as an illegitimate leader by America. Nicolas Maduro was taken in an operation many have dubbed the most successful military operation of all time. It involved months of planning, coordination among countless agencies and departments, and the successful foray into the heart of Venezuela to bring Maduro back to the United States without the loss of a single life or nary a piece of a equipment.
Speaking over a slow-moving panoply of images and videos showing American military personnel and technology, Hegseth beseeched the Lord for wisdom to do what is right and do what must be done to protect those in uniform and those that they likewise protect.
“Dear Gracious God, I need you now more than ever before, I need you for I realize how great is my task and how meager are my resources. Give me wisdom. I pray when demands press in on every side. Give me accurate eyes that can separate the important from the urgent, the fundamental from the incidental, give me wisdom,” the prayer begins.
“I pray when I ache for my soldiers friendship. Give me courage to earn their respect and obedience. Give me wisdom. I pray when time and task pull in different directions, grant me clarity to see the way and peace to calm those around me. Give me wisdom. I pray when decisions are demanded, may my walk match my talk,” Hegseth continued.
“Remind me daily that the speed of a leader is the speed of the team. Give me wisdom. I pray when my authority is tested, show me when to raise my voice and when to lower it and to use the carrot and when to use the stick,” he added.
Give me wisdom. I pray, when my time is done, may I be remembered as a leader who encouraged not discouraged, as a man who built people up not tore them down. Give me wisdom. I pray, when in victory, keep me humble,” he went on.
“When in defeat, keep me from despair, compensate my weaknesses, accentuate my strengths, mold me into the man you want me to be. Give me wisdom, I pray, and most of all, please, keep my soldiers, safe, lead them, guide them, protect them, watch over them,”he continued
“And as you gave all of yourself for me, help me to give all of myself for them. And it is in your name we pray. Amen,” he concluded. Watch the powerful prayer below:
