Robert Burale is one of the most famous pastors in Kenya. Burale, who has also worked as an author and actor, recently made headlines for a shocking confession. The African pastor admitted to a major addiction to strip clubs. He says that he was motivated by a lack of identity instead. Burale said that he spent a large amount of money chasing this addiction.
“It was a lack of identity, it was not because I was under the spirit of lust and immorality. It was a lack of identity, and when you go to the strip club, the women under some few coins will make you feel like you are the King of Zamunda because they are dancing and giving you all the attention that you need,” the pastor and motivational speaker said during a televised interview.
“Strippers love tall people because when they dance, they have a lot to look at,” he insightfully added. “The work of a stripper is to bedevil you and capture you in the spirit. The game they play is a very spiritual thing. They sit on your lap dance and never take away their eyes off you then you leave the strip club saying you will never come back here again,” said the pastor.
“But when you go to bed, that is the thing that reminds you in your mind, and you are, oh my goodness, I need to go back there tomorrow,” Burale said to describe his addiction. “There is one night I spend Ksh100,000 ($780) on a strip club.” The pastor used his past addiction to make a broader point. “Even people who are addicted to pornography is a lack of identity,” he added.
“So you leave home on a Wednesday night and the next time you are going is on Friday so on Thursday there is nobody to make you feel like that so you have to look for money to go back there on Friday for another woman to make you feel the same,” the pastor concluded. Other pastors have also struggled with similar addictions. We reported on Terren Dames, who was arrested last year for soliciting prostitution. After police captured him in a STING operation, he was removed from his position as Senior Pastor at North Dallas Community Bible Fellowship.
Dames was busted after he attempted to procure the services of an undercover officer dressed as a prostitute. On May 2, 2024, the disgraced pastor responded to an online ad offering illicit services. He allegedly asked for the ‘full package,’ which is slang for sex. Terren Dames agreed to pay the woman $150 for her services. The pair were supposed to meet at a motel, but the pastor left when nobody answered his knock.
Ironically, the pastor often spoke about his traditional values. In a sermon posted to Facebook, he said, “When a man thinks that he can go to a doctor and have him manipulate his flesh – and so can a woman too – if we who call ourselves Christians stand up and condone this evil and immorality, we are cursing God to his face and saying, ‘your image is disgusting, and I will twist it to how I want it to be.’”

“When a Christian stands up and acts political versus an outcry against the wrath of God, something is wrong with that Christian! We’re living in a place that’s bringing down the same thing that happened in Sodom and Gomorrah!” he concluded in his ironic sermon. While he has yet to be charged, he faces serious jail time, aside from the embarrassment of failing to live up to his values.
