Former NFL great and arguably one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time went viral for reasons far more important than throwing the pigskin on the gridiron on Christmas Day. Hall-of-fame signal caller Brett Favre reminded everyone of the true purpose of December 25th in a heartfelt message about his own personal faith in Jesus Christ.
Favre, who from his time in college has leaned on the Roman Catholic Faith of his upbringing and that of his wife of nearly 30 years, Deanna, and has long spoken publicly about his faith. The Favres famously spoke out against abortion when their oldest child was conceived when both were in college and the future NFL star was just 19.
Deanna also used her cancer-surviving story to launch Bible sales meant to raise money for breast cancer awareness. Her favorite verse comes from Romans 8:28, which states: “We know that in everything God works for good with those who love him, who are called according to his purpose.”
Regardless, Favre’s touching post resonated on a new level. As Christians claw back cultural ground against the woke left – Bible sales soared in the final months of 2025 – there is a newfound appreciation for candor and humility before the Lord.
“For more than 20 years I put my hands up in celebration on the gridiron,” Favre’s post began. “Now, I put my hands up to the One that gave me all my talents and abilities — the King of my life, Jesus Christ. I’ve never claimed to be perfect, but my aim is for the direction of my life to honor Christ and I pray my faith increases.”
“So I do want to wish you all a Merry Christmas, whether you’re solo, with family, or friends, and if you haven’t done so, put your faith in Him who can save, Jesus Christ,” the post concluded. Adding perhaps to the emotional weight of the message is that Favre was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 2024 and some observers couldn’t help but wonder if the former Green Bay Packers legend was accepting his next great journey.
Favre then shared a Bible verse, Ephesians 2:8-9. “For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.”
Commenting on the post, one account on social media reported extremely positively on the faith-based message. “One of the greatest NFL quarterbacks of all time, Brett Favre, posted a heartfelt message on Christmas Day 2025 that touched many,” the post stated. “No hype. No politics. Just gratitude.”
“Favre noted he has never claimed to be perfect, but his goal now is to live a life that honors Christ and grow in faith. He encouraged others, whether alone or with family, to put their trust in Jesus this Christmas. In a world focused on self, fame, and ego, moments like this stand out. Faith over fame. Gratitude over glory,” it finished.
