A lesbian pastor affiliated with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) was roundly mocked and lambasted for a deeply disturbing sermon in which she proclaimed the holiness of of gay sex and proudly boasted of being able to make any part of the scripture ‘gay.’ Such were the words of the female lesbian pastor at the unidentified Zion Lutheran Church after clips raced across social media platforms.
The woman, also unnamed and unidentified by The Christian Tribune, appears to be giving one long sermon proclaiming the wondrous holiness of scripture by utilizing what she calls queer theology. Basically, she finds ‘meaning in scripture for the queer community.’ In other words, she just makes it up if it suits her agenda.
“Our planning team for this awesome service gave me the theme divinely queer, but they didn’t give me a scripture, but have no fear, because I can make anything gay, okay? But seriously, I actually can make just about any scripture gay,” the pastor begins.
“So that’s why, if you went to church this morning, and you were in a church like ours, you probably read the text that we already just read, because I have no more creative juices, and I thought I would just preach on the text that the lectionary gave me that 10s of 1000s of churches read around the country today, and millions of people heard a sermon on, but this time you’re going to get to hear it just a little bit more gay,” she goes on in the clip.
“Queer theology really is just queer folk, us queer theologians interpreting scripture. Queer theology is finding meaning in scripture for the queer community. Queer theology is seeing ourselves represented in God’s amazing and beautiful love story,” she added. Watch that part of the sermon below:
In the next video, the pastor really goes off the rails, describing how she was brought to tears when someone who affirmed her lifestyle said not only was her lesbian relationship permitted according to scripture, the act itself was holy.
“The first time another pastor told me that my gay sex was holy, I cried. So, church, in honor of God’s community, gathered here in honor of the creation that God has called good us. Join me in this affirmation of queer holiness, divinely queer holiness, written by my fellow queer pastor and colleague, friend, Reverend Laura Groen,” the pastor remarked.
“Our lives are holy, our dancing is holy, our protest is holy, our grief is holy, our rage is holy, our community is holy, our gender presentations are holy, our bodies are holy, our sex is holy, our love is holy. You are holy. We are holy, y’all. The first time I heard this affirmation in a church, the first time another pastor told me that my gay sex was holy. I cried,” she finished in the clip.
The pastor is affiliated with the ECLA. A short look at the ECLA’s website reveals a startling wokeness, as it offers comments addressing inclusion and equity. This, despite the fact that the Bible itself never offered views on modern-day progressivism, and that the church is a body meant to reflect biblical teachings.
“When backlash against diversity, equity and inclusion intensifies and associated personnel and programs are cut, the church has an extraordinary opportunity: to become a living demonstration of what is possible when it chooses belonging over assimilation,” the church website says of being able to belong with authenticity.
“Identity politics often pit people against each other among racial, cultural and partisan groups for power. There is a desperate need for spaces where we can truly belong without losing who we are. The church has the opportunity and the calling to model something profoundly different,” it says of becoming a powerful witness.\
