A group of Republican representatives has introduced a resolution that declares that June is “Family Month” rather than Pride Month, with one congresswoman telling reporters that the proposed change is a response to the “radical leftist agenda” that she argues is a threat to families.
For context, on June 3, 2025, press accounts confirmed that Rep. Mary Miller (R-IL) had led a team of Republican representatives to introduce a resolution “supporting the designation of the month of June as Family Month.” Moreover, on the same day, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt told reporters that the White House has “no plans” to issue an official proclamation that June 2025 is Pride Month.
The resolution, which was first obtained by The Daily Wire’s Mary Margaret Olohan, declares that American families are “under relentless attack from a radical leftist agenda that seeks to erase truth, redefine marriage, and confuse our children.” Continuing, the Republican representatives argued that declaring June Family Month would “reject the lie of ‘Pride’ and instead honor God’s timeless and perfect design.”
Furthermore, the resolution asserted that if Americans “truly want to restore our nation, we must stand united to protect and uphold the foundation upon which it was built — the family.” Furthermore, the resolution states that the “best environment for children to thrive is a home with a married mother and father.”
In addition, Rep. Miller and her fellow members of Congress who signed the resolution provided background on the establishment of Pride Month, writing, “The month of June was first declared as Pride Month by President Bill Clinton in 1999 and has been done so by Presidents Barack Obama and Joe Biden, rejecting the importance of marriage and family.” The resolution continued, saying that now, “Americans are inundated with perverse Pride Month displays and events throughout the month of June that denigrate the nuclear family.”
Moreover, a June 3, 2025, X post from Mary Margaret Olohan featured screenshots of a portion of the resolution, which was shown to declare that the House “recognizes the benefit of marriage and family to men, women, children, and society,” and “no longer recognizes June as Pride Month.” Olohan commented, “One might describe the text of the resolution as ‘based.'”
On the same day that the resolution was shared with the public, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt was asked by a reporter if the president “has any plans on making a proclamation [of Pride Month or another national holiday], or is it just going to be June this year?” In response, the press secretary confirmed that President Trump has “no plans for a proclamation for the month of June.”
However, adding to her response, Leavitt clarified that “this president is very proud to be a president for all Americans, regardless of race, religion, or creed.” Leavitt went on to tell the gathered reporters that the Department of Homeland Security “will be issuing a new list of sanctuary cities” in response to concerns related to illegal immigration and domestic terrorism.
