In a recent letter to the editor of the Salt Lake Tribune, the author claimed that Trump supporters can’t be Christians. This is despite the overwhelming support for the president in conservative religious circles. In many cases, like this one, the author equivocates their preferences with eternal truth. For ideologues like this, the only acceptable Christian is a woke one.
“A wise person once made an astute comparison: “Sitting on a pew in church,” the author said, “doesn’t make you a Christian any more than sitting in a garage makes you a car,” the letter begins. “For many of my fellow Christians, being seen in church by their neighbors is more important to their self-esteem than their invisible good deeds,” the author ironically added.
“For example, which would be the more Christian thing to do, sitting in church on Sunday or serving the homeless in a soup kitchen? Given these two scenarios, ask yourself, “What would Jesus do?”,” the writer says in a painfully unoriginal critique. He added “We’re all free to believe whatever, however, and whomever we choose, but if your moral compass tells you that Trump was somehow chosen or inspired, perhaps you need to reevaluate what your values and ethics really are, who you actually worship, and why. ”
He says that Trump supporters “have been deceived and your moral tenets are in question. Do you see why we can’t take your pious sanctimony seriously?” He goes on to attack the moral character of President Trump. “What are his Christian attributes? What virtues does he possess that you would want your children to emulate? What good deeds has he done in his life, now or ever?” he ranted.
He next penned a series of personal attacks. “The fundamentalist, MAGA, conservative Christian hypocrisy league is completely paranoid that the left has been trying to take “Christ” out of “Christmas,” yet they spend all their time, day in and day out, in a concerted and very public effort to remove “Christ” from “Christianity” by praising the amoral attributes of an antichrist instead.”
He concluded by admitting, that he was not a Christian, but is qualified to lecture them. “I’m not a textbook Christian, but I know evil when I see it. If you support Trump for any reason, you are neither a Christian nor an American. You are part of the problem. And America’s problem is only going to get worse because of obtuse fanatics like you.”
This is similar to the argument put forward by Congresswoman Lateffah James.”Good afternoon. I am a congresswoman from California’s 12th Congressional District, the most progressive district in these United States of America. I come to you today after 30 years of organizing on the ground, and one of the things that I know is that the Republicans, they are losing when they attack our healers,” she said. “Our healers have been stranded all over the globe. ”
Watch Simon’s woke rant here:
She concluded her remarks with an insane rant about how Republicans view their faith. “I’ve got to tell you one last thing—the Republican Party claims to love a Jesus that loves its neighbor, claims to love God that blesses its people, to heal the sick and to take care of the widow, to take care of the child with no mother, no father,” she concluded. “We honestly must ask this party to reevaluate its own relationship with God. We will move forward.”
