The most recent installment in the “God’s Not Dead” franchise is set to release amid the upcoming election, where the political climate is bound to become increasingly contentious as November approaches. Reportedly, the movie is set to address the “complex relationship” between faith and politics as Americans prepare to exercise their civic duties at a time when America is extremely polarized.
“God’s Not Dead: In God We Trust,” is scheduled to be released in theaters on September 12, showcasing attempts within the Christian community to influence American politics on the national scale. “Set in a time of political and spiritual upheaval, ‘God’s Not Dead: In God We Trust’ follows Reverend David Hill as he runs for Congress following the sudden death of an incumbent,” per a summary of the film’s plot.
Despite what the secular left will argue, Christianity immensely influenced America’s founding. As our society increasingly strays from its Christian roots, it is the role of our elected leaders with faith to stand up. “Facing a powerful adversary intent on removing religion from governance, the film emphasizes the significance of religious values in shaping policy and governance,” it continues.
The movie stars David A.R. White, who plays the role of Reverend David Hill “Now more than ever, Christians must realize that we are being called to deliver hope to a country that’s feeling hopeless,” Hill states in the movie’s trailer. “Faith begins where your comfort zone ends. We need to step out into that faith.”
White previously illustrated to the Christian Post how faith in Jesus Christ serves as a reliable anchor when life inevitably doesn’t pan out the way it was intended. “These times come into our lives in different ways. We never imagined that they would do that,” he added. “First and foremost, [God] loves us unconditionally … no matter what you’ve gone through, we’re worthy. You don’t have to earn God’s love. The same thing as our children; we love our children more than anything else in the world.”
During these contentious times in American society, where people are more divided on issues than ever, there have been increasing calls for Christians to exercise their civic duties. The Christian Tribune recently reported on comments from Pastor John MacArthur, who called out the Biden administration for promoting moral degeneracy.
The pastor warned that when a society “turns to sexual immorality, homosexual immorality, and a reprobate mind, God gives them up.” MacArthur continued, “There’s a sense in which God takes His hand of blessing off that society. When He gives them up, it means he gives them up to the consequences of their choices. If you follow that pattern, what you get is Joe Biden, who is the epitome of all those things that I just talked about,” he said, while suggesting that immoral behavior is running “rampant in his [Biden’s] own family at an epic level.”
Furthermore, MacArthur suggested that if Trump is reelected it could slow the cultural decay that America is enduring. “And, you know, I think if God allows that to happen, that Trump becomes president, you can say that the Lord has kind of put the brakes on a little bit, but the train is moving so fast down the direction of having been abandoned by God that unless there’s a huge spiritual turnaround, there’s no way to stop this,” he said.
