As many big-budget films produced by famous studios flop at the box office, a Christian movie managed to dominate the box office, coming in third for the weekend and being shown at thousands of box offices around the country. The faith-based film is called “Ordinary Angels” and is about an alcoholic hairdresser finding faith and changing her life for the better, eventually raising the funds to help a little girl get an organ transplant.
Ordinary Angels stars Hilary Swank and is now being shown at over three thousand venues. It opened on February 23 of 2024, and has done relatively well at the box office, especially in comparison to the numerous far-left movies that have come out and flopped. In fact, Ordinary Angels managed to come in third place at the box office over the weekend of February 24 and 25, bringing in over $6 million. When it came out on Friday, February 23, it beat the woke flop Madame Web.
Speaking about the movie and what makes is important for people to see and learn from, Hilary Swank said, “It’s a feel-good movie and a reminder of the impact and change we can make in another’s life. We don’t have to be perfect to do it. We don’t have to have all our stuff together. We can be imperfect, flawed human beings and still see another person in need and be of service and really find our purpose through that.”
Similarly, the filmmaker and producer, Jon Erwin, told Movie Guide that the story is wonderful because it is so full of hope and joy, and shows how to act in a biblical way when facing real-world problems with big stakes. He said, “It’s one of my favorite combinations where it’s got real-life issues, real stakes. It’s not a movie that has easy answers, but it’s got so much hope and so much joy at the heart of it, and so I really enjoy that balance.”
Continuing, he described what he thinks the main values championed by the film are, telling Movie Guide, “This is a movie about community, coming together, and it’s a story about how helping other people can help us heal ourselves.”
Also joining in was Alan Ritchson, the Reacher star, who argued that the movie helps bring people back to the important values they should be thinking about as Christians. He said, “There is a lot of polarization and divisiveness and sadly, I think a lot of that comes from the Church which is oftentimes far more focused on how vitriolic they can be toward one another or how they can ostracize certain groups, make ‘out’ groups or monsters of others and this film rewrites the story and brings us back to the call that is placed on our lives as Christians.”
Ritchson added, “There is a way and that way is peace. We are called to be peacemakers. We are called to serve one another. We are called to be a city on a hill with lights…that is the call. And that is what you see happening in this broken life of Sharon.”
