“Taking Food From the Hungry”: Jasmine Crockett Slams Christian Lawmakers for Calling for SNAP Reform

Woke congresswoman Jasmine Crockett went on a tirade on social media, speaking out against Republican lawmakers for pushing for sweeping reforms within the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and calling them hypocrites for touting “Christian values” while “taking food from the hungry.”

For context, on May 13, 2025, Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) wrote a controversial post on X in which she condemned Republican lawmakers for proposed changes to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), which Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins described as being filled with “fraud and abuse and corruption.”

In her post, Rep. Crockett began by saying, “Let’s clear something up: SNAP stands for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program — the LARGEST federal program to fight hunger in the country!” She added, “It blows my mind that the party that touts its ‘Christian values’ is the same party that is SET on taking food from the hungry.”

In response to her post, conservatives shot back at the congresswoman, with an X user under the handle Trailblazer replying, “Ma’am, let’s actually clear something up. Nobody’s trying to ‘take food from the hungry.’ That’s a dishonest talking point used to stir outrage instead of having a real conversation about reforms.” they added, “What’s being proposed are work requirement updates for able-bodied adults without dependents, not kids, not seniors, not disabled individuals.”

In another response to Rep. Crockett’s post, an X user pushed back against Rep. Crockett’s implied portrayal of “Christian values,” saying, “Nothing in Christianity calls for money to be forcibly seized by the State then redistributed through an inefficient government program. If I’m wrong please cite the verse…”

Importantly, on May 20, 2025, U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins told Breitbart News that SNAP was full of “fraud and abuse and corruption” just days after Rep. Crockett ardently defended the program and called out Christian Republicans for calling for its reform. Secretary Rollins said, “I’m not sure that there is a program that perhaps needs more reform than the SNAP program, which is the food stamp program.”

Moreover, Secretary Rollins shared a shocking statistic, saying, “$400 million of our taxpayer money is spent every day across our nutrition programs, just at USDA.” She added that President Trump “ran and spoke to the American people about rightsizing government and realigning and making sure every taxpayer dollar is spent to its best and highest and most effective use.”

In an X post on May 2, 2025, Secretary Rollins doubled down on her argument for SNAP reform, saying, “Food Stamp Fraud stops NOW. If you are stealing from struggling families & the generosity of American taxpayers – WE ARE COMING FOR YOU.” She concluded, “Under President Trump, @USDA is restoring law & order and protecting your hard earned tax dollars.”
