TD Jakes, a famous televangelist, has been mired in controversy. Last year, a number of men came forward alleging sexual misconduct. While Jakes has denied these allegations and his connections to Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs, Jakes has found himself involved in a few controversies. In a recently unearthed sermon, Jakes claimed that Eve, the first woman, was Adam’s mother.
The creation of Eve is recorded in the second book of Genesis.”But for Adam, no suitable helper was found. So the Lord God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep; and while he was sleeping, he took one of the man’s ribs and then closed up the place with flesh. Then the Lord God made a woman from the rib he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man.” The passage reads.
A few verses later, the biblical author adds, “That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is united to his wife, and they become one flesh. Adam and his wife were both naked, and they felt no shame.” The original text is clear: Eve was Adam’s wife, and no mention is made of her being his mother. However, Jakes has a different reading of Genesis.
“On the seventh day the sabbath Savior rested. On the seventh day the sabbath Savior, he the one who said ‘I am Lord of the sabbath’ the sabbath Savior, rested. But Adam failed while the Savior rested,” the pastor said. “And so the sabbath Savior had to break his rest and become the ‘searching Savior.’ And the voice of the Lord walked through the cool of the garden and God said ‘Adam, where art thou?’”
Jakes added, “He didn’t ask where Eve was because Adam was Eve’s mama. Eve was born out of Adam so when he had breathed the breath of life he had breathed Eve into Adam.”“Male and female created them and called his name Adam.” And the searching Savior knew that if he found Adam he found Eve. So he didn’t say ‘Eve where are thou? Adam where art thou?’ The searching savior broke his rest to find his lost son. What a mighty God we serve.”
Jakes has been swapped by allegations of sexual misconduct. Richard Youngblood and six others signed sworn documents supporting his brother’s accusations. In addition, he recounted his own story of abuse. Richard explained how, in the 1980s, he worked as a worship leader in Jakes’ first church. He described how “things started to become weird.” He detailed an allegation concerning a business trip the pair took together.
Jakes booked the men a single room with two beds on this trip. “That night, while I was laying in my bed, I felt Elder Jakes climb into my bed. He pressed his body against mine and asked, ‘Youngblood, do you feel that?’” he explained. “He was referencing his erection that he was pressing against my backside.” He also described how the megachurch pastor attempted to kiss him.

Tyrone A. Blackburn, Duane Youngblood’s lawyer, filed a motion to dismiss the suit. “This lawsuit is a textbook example of a powerful entity attempting to silence a survivor of alleged clergy abuse,” Blackburn told reporters. “The court must weigh not only the legal arguments but also the broader implications this case has for free speech, survivor advocacy, and institutional accountability.”
