Speaking in a phone interview with the “Big D & Bubba” show, country star Colt Ford spoke about God’s grace in helping him survive the heart attack he suffered in April after a performance in Phoenix, Arizona. He attributes his survival to God having more in store for him. Ford said that he died twice on his way to the hospital, but was fortunately resuscitated both times.

Ford said, speaking about the concert leading up to his heart attack and how he keeled over because of the heart attack while texting his fiance, saying, “I didn’t even remember coming out here to do a show in Phoenix, and apparently we played this great, sold-out show and it was incredible. I walked back to the bus, texted my fiancée, ‘Hi baby,’ and fell over dead.”

Continuing, Ford said that he died twice from the heart attack but that he was saved because members of his band went pver to check on him. He said, “I died two times. Luckily, my band came out to check on me. … All of a sudden, that’s when all hell broke loose.” He added that he was in “stable, but critical condition in the ICU” and that he “died on the way over” to it, but that the medics  “brought me back, saved my life.”

Then, explaining where he sees God as fitting into the story, Ford said that he thinks he survived those multiple deaths and the trip to the ER because God had more for him to do in this life. He said, “The Lord had more for me to do, more music for me to make, hopefully more differences to make in some people’s lives.” Emphasizing the point that his survival was miraculous, Ford says the doctor told him, “I wouldn’t have given you 1%, I would have given you 0.1% that you would have survived.”

Describing the extent of the damage to his body, Ford said, “I had so much trauma to my body and my heart, they had to put three stents in. There’s just so much going on, and then all of a sudden my gall bladder crapped out on me.”

Then, noting that the heart attack and his miraculous survival changed him spiritually, Ford said, “It’s been life changing. It’s been spiritually changing. Obviously, it’s been physically changing. It’s just been a crazy. … I’m not still a hundred percent out of the woods yet. I’m gonna have to learn how to be a little selfish for a while before I get myself better.” He added, “This changed my perspective and outlook on lots of things. Live every day like it’s your last because one day it will be.”
