Jacksonville Jaguars defensive lineman DaVon Hamilton recently showed that his belief in God and Christ the Lord are at the center of his life, professing his belief in the Christian faith when he was baptized over the weekend. The lineman’s baptism came after many career and personal highs and lows in recent years.

Hamilton posted about his baptism in an Instagram story, posting a video and captioning it, โ€œAll praise to God.โ€ The outlet Sports Spectrum posted the video as well, captioning it, “Best news ever. Congrats to Jaguars NT @davonhamilton53 on getting baptized. ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ™”

Joining in, numerous commenters praised Hamilton for getting baptized. One commenter, for example, wrote, โ€œBless the Lord, His works are great! There is revival all around, itโ€™s great to see.โ€ Another added, “All the glory ๐Ÿ˜ค. Thank you for your obedience ๐Ÿ™Œ” Still another said, “Praise God ๐Ÿ‘ Love seeing how the Lord is working in sports right now.”

Hamilton signed a three-year contract extension with the Jaguars in April of 2023 after the season went well. He started in fourteen games in the previous season and played seventeen regular season games in 2022. He managed to score 2.5 sacks that season, along with 56 total tackles.

Also in 2023 he welcomed a son, his first child. Posting about that wonderful moment on Instagram, Hamilton wrote, “Outside of marrying the love of my life, this has been the greatest blessing God has offered to me. I canโ€™t wait for more wonderful moments with you both. Love you both to the moon and back ๐Ÿ˜˜๐ŸŒŽ๐ŸŒ•๐ŸŒŽ”

Things went less well for Hamilton in the second half of 2023. Ready to come back for another solid 2023-2024 season after the 2022-2023 success, he instead developed a spinal abscess in the August 2023 preseason. That major infection kept him on the sidelines for the first seven games of the season, as Sports Spectrum reported.

Commenting on the difficult situation, Hamilton said,ย โ€œA lot of stuff was going on. A lot of side effects were going on. I was in a weird place. This isnโ€™t really a normal illness, or a normal infection people get. It was very strange. I feel very fortunate. There was a lot of stuff that could have happened. I could be not playing football permanently.” He added,ย โ€œIโ€™m incredibly blessed to be back where I am. Iโ€™m so thankful for the people who supported me.โ€

Then, speaking more about his injury in early January of 2024, Hamilton spoke about God and how He is in control, not us, saying, “You know this is God’s process. I can’t control anything that is going on. God is going to have a plan for me and I this was his plan.” He added that the situation was particularly difficult given the recent birth of his son, saying, “My wife held it down this whole time, especially having a newborn at the same time as everything that was going on. Kind of a very hard process.”
