Actor Jesse Hutch shared an amazing testimony about how his faith carried him through a terrifying experience, explaining how he nearly drowned while working as a whitewater rafting guide and made a full recovery after undergoing intensive treatment.

For context, Jesse Hutch, a Canadian actor who has had roles in Batwoman, Arrow, Homestead, and more, explained to CBN News that he had had a near-death experience at 21, surviving a whitewater rafting accident that he believes should have taken his life. Speaking to CBN’s Billy Hallowell, Hutch said that he believed that his survival and recovery were a miracle.

In the interview, Hutch matter-of-factly said, “I drowned when I was 21 years old,” explaining that he had been trapped underwater for an estimated 11-22 minutes, adding, “That was another miracle in my life. I should be completely, honestly, dead. I shouldn’t have lived, and if I did, I shouldn’t be able to speak, I shouldn’t be able to hear, I shouldn’t be able to talk.”

Continuing, Hutch explained that he was rescued and transported to the hospital, where he underwent treatment in a pressure chamber and recovered after just a few weeks. He told Hallowell, “It is an absolute miracle, man. I was fine. My eardrums didn’t completely explode; they should have.”

Adding to the miraculous nature of the story, Hutch told Hallowell more about his dire circumstances during the rafting incident, saying, “For your brain, generally three minutes without oxygen puts you in a position of probably death.” He added, “You’re a vegetable, like you can’t talk, you’re not walking, everything’s done.” However, he clarified, “Also, a miracle that my eardrums aren’t completely done and I can breathe.”

In addition, Hutch called the moment when he became trapped under the water “one of the scariest” of his life, but he clarified that a peace washed over him as he put his trust in God. He told Hallowell, “I knew in my brain I was finished. And immediately after that, I had 100% peace because I ended up in this position where I was like, OK, I’m in your hands, God…I completely surrender.” Hutch added, “That was the most peace that I ever felt.”

After he recovered, Hutch said that his life was totally transformed, saying, “It gave me a whole new perspective on what it means to let go.” He continued, “And I’m still learning from that experience, to be honest. I still have times where I…believe it or not, still find myself trying to get control and be in charge.”

Near the end of his story, Hutch said that he had learned a priceless lesson from the experience, saying, “When I went through that drowning experience and drowned to death, God literally taught me a lesson that said, ‘You control none of this.'” He added, “You can’t even understand that until you understand it.” Hallowell responded, “You talk about the peace that surpasses understanding all the time, that’s that peace.”
