Online commentators have discovered the so-called “Her-church.” The distinctive purple building has become a local icon in San Francisco. This Evangelical Lutheran Church is focused entirely on feminist ideology. According to its website, the church has a “Resident Witch” on the payroll. Conservative Christians were outraged and took issue with many aspects of the Herchurch.
“We honor holy women, and all women are holy,” says Pastor Stacy Boorn. The church is decorated with dozens of feminist artworks, and during the services, all pronouns are female. ‘God’ is replaced with ‘goddess’, and the whole organization is designed to resist the patriarchy. The church website offers insight into this bizarre feminist church.
“Our mission is to embody and voice the prophetic wisdom and word of the Divine Feminine, to uplift the values of compassion, creativity and care for the earth and one another,” the website reads. “At herchurch, we create a sacred space for those who wish to worship … We are fortunate to have pagans, non-theists, yogis, spiritual seekers of all sorts as well as Christians, Jews, Muslims, and life-long Lutherans as members of our faith/spiritual community.”
“We strive to be an open and affirming community. All persons are welcome and loved in the love of Christ-Sophia and the Great Mother of us All,” the website states. “Even though we have been in God/dess’ service in the City since 1882, we are birthing a new congregation. We are always becoming a community of hospitality, which expresses inclusivity through word/wisdom and worship, deed and ministry programming.”
The statement of purpose concludes with classic woke boilerplate: “All expressions of gender identity are a blessing!.. It is time to return the cosmos to a more centered and egalitarian community which cares for all people, creatures and elements!” The list of employees, titled ‘priest-xx’, offers additional insight into this mega-woke congregation.
Pastor Stacy Boorn refers to her divinity degree as “malestream.” Which appears to be a portmanteau of ‘male’ and ‘mainstream.’ Another Employee, Priestess Christine Konkol, refers to herself as a ‘resident witch.’ “As Priestess Witch for herchurch, Christine offers magical gifts to share and enhance the support and development of herchurch,” her bio reads.
Online commentators were incensed by this insane display of woke ideology. “This my go to example when someone asks why I think the ELCA is apostate. This congregation is in good standing with ELCA headquarters,” said one user.”Tell me you’ve been cut off from God without telling me you have been cut off from God. Oh, look at that a residential witch on staff,” added another.

“My most common comment on these “churches” – vomitous,” replied one account. “It is neither evangelical or Lutheran… We need to call these people out for what they are and not allow them to smear our churches…any of our churches. Baptist, catholic, ortho, presby. No…no witches in any of them,” one user reacted. One user said, “Straight heresy and blasphemy. It’s sad that we can no longer trust some churches today to preach the biblical gospel. Be very careful when selecting your church” to sum up his reaction.
