A resurfaced speech from First Lady Melania Trump in 2019 completes the arc of the Trump family in wishing for a more prosperous nation for the people of Venezuela and realizing that moment. Speaking to a gigantic audience of refugees from communist nations, such as Cuba and Venezuela, in a packed Miami auditorium, the 45th and 47th First Lady said she prayed for a free nation, and six years later, that prayer has been answered.
For context, the Trump administration pulled off what many are calling a historic military achievement in the early morning hours of January 3rd, 2026. Hundreds of boats, planes, and military and intelligence operatives planned, coordinated, and ultimately executed a nearly flawless invasion of the Venezuelan interior in order to extract Nicolas Maduro, whom both Trump and other world leaders have deemed an ‘illegitimate’ leader.
Maduro and his wife were placed on one of the countless ships in the Caribbean and he is reportedly making his way to New York City, a delicious irony given that the socialist will be housed in the same city as the recently-inaugurated socialist mayor, Zohran Mamdani. Maduro is set to face trial for the drug-related crimes.
Spotlighting the years’-long desire of the first and non-current second Trump administration to liberate the Venezuelan peoples from their despotic president, a post on the social media platform X captured the sentiment perfectly.
“In 2019, First Lady Melania Trump spoke words of faith over Venezuela,” the post wrote, before quoting the cruz of Melania’s message. “‘There is hope, we are free, and we pray together loudly and proudly that soon the people of Venezuela will be free as well.’ Today, that prayer is being answered,” the post concluded.
In the speech given from Miami, a hub for communist refugees from Cuba and Venezuela and huge 2024 Trump base as would later occur, the First lady said she was proud to be addressing those peoples. “It is wonderful to be here today in the beautiful city of Miami, the President and I are honored to stand with all of you as we together support the people, great people of Venezuela. I’m proud to be here with you in the United States of America as your First Lady.”
Melania continued, pointing out what these immigrants endured under their old regimes before fleeing to America. “Many of you in the room know what it feels like to be blessed with freedom after living under the oppression of socialism and communism in Venezuela, the people are on the brink of reclaiming their own liberty,” she said.
“Today, we must let the Venezuelan people hear us all with one united voice. There is hope. We are free, and we pray together loudly and proudly that soon the people of Venezuela will be free as well,” she concluded to a deafening roar of cheers.
