Former President Donald Trump recently voiced his affinity for Christians ahead of the election, explaining how they are “the most important people.” Trump has campaigned hard for Christians, where many followers of Christ are turned off by the far-left rhetoric of the Harris-Walz campaign that seemingly contradicts Christian values.
Speaking at the National Faith Summit in Powder Springs, Georgia, Trump applauded Christians, calling out the left. Trump claimed Democrats are “trying to hurt you; they’re trying to stymie you,” while urging them to rally voters in their respective communities to vote for him.
Asserting that religious freedom faces a “serious threat” he stated, “We can’t let that happen because I really believe it’s, it’s sort of the fabric of our country. It’s a thing that holds our country together and we can’t lose it and we’re not gonna lose it. We’re not gonna lose it.” Trump further said, “I think this is a country that needs religion. It’s like the glue that holds it together and we don’t have that. That’s why you are the most important people and I’m not sure you even realize it.”
Trump’s comments follow immense backlash against Vice President Kamala Harris after she appeared to mock Christians protestors at a rally of hers in Wisconsin. After one of them proclaimed “Christ is King,” the vice president said, “Oh you guys are at the wrong rally.”
Following this incident, Donald Trump’s Instagram account weighed in on the incident, stating, “While Kamala said that people who believe in Jesus don’t belong to her rallies, in our Movement — We love Christians, we welcome believers, and we embrace followers of Jesus.”
Furthermore, Republican Vice Presidential candidate JD Vance voiced his support toward the Christian faith. “I want to talk particularly to people faith, because I know we got a lot of Catholics here, and, you know, I don’t talk a whole lot about my faith, because, you know, sometimes you just talk about other things. You talk about public policy. But I’m certainly a very devout Christian, and I was actually baptized for the first time in 2019 I returned to my faith as a as a young man, got baptized,” Vance said.
“And I say this as as a as a Christian, as a person who was baptized for the first time just a few years ago. There is something really bizarre with Kamala Harris’s anti Christian rhetoric and anti Christian approach to public policy,” Vance continued, before someone in the crowd then shouted, “Jesus is King,” presumably referencing the Kamala Harris rally controversy. Vance responded, “That’s right, Jesus is King.”
Vance further blasted Harris’ radical agenda, stating, “Remember, Kamala Harris has supported suing Catholic nuns to force them to force them to perform procedures that violate their conscience.” However, he maintained that he and former president Trump would protect the interests of Christians. “I think that’s ridiculous. I think we’re a big enough country where we can actually respect the right of people of faith to live according to their conscience and not try to force Kamala Harris’ progressive values down their throat.”
