Fifty-year-old Corey Comperatore has been praised as a hero after he died while protecting his family during the failed assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump on Saturday. Comperatore, a father of two daughters and former fire chief of the Buffalo Township Fire Company, was honored by Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro.
“We lost a fellow Pennsylvanian last night: Corey Comperatore,” Shapiro said. “Corey was a girl dad. Corey was a firefighter. Corey went to church every Sunday. Corey loved his community. And most especially, Corey loved his family.” The governor further added that Comperatore “died a hero” for his selfless actions to protect his family. “Corey dove on his family to protect them last night at this rally,” he said. “Corey was the very best of us. May his memory be a blessing.”
Corey’s sister, Dawn, wrote in a Facebook post, “The PA Trump Rally claimed the life of my brother, Corey Comperatore. The hatred for one man took the life of the one man we loved the most. He was a hero that shielded his daughters. His wife and girls just lived through the unthinkable and unimaginable. The PA Trump Rally claimed the life of my brother, Corey Comperatore. The hatred for one man took the life of the one man we loved the most.”
Moreover, Comperatore’s daughter, Allyson, whom the father laid his life down to protect, also honored Corey’s memory in a Facebook post. “He was the best dad a girl could ever ask for. My sister and I never needed for anything. You call, he would answer, and he would do whatever it is you needed, and if he didn’t know you, he would figure out how,” she wrote.
Allyson further emphasized that her dad died a “super-hero” for his selfless actions to protect his family in the perilous situation. “The media will not tell you that he died a real-life super hero. They are not going to tell you how quickly he threw my mom and I to the ground. They are not going to tell you that he shielded my body from the bullet that came for us. And I want nothing more than to cry on him and tell him thank you.”
Former President Trump also extended his condolences to the family in a post on Truth Social several hours after the event. “I want to thank The United States Secret Service, and all of Law Enforcement, for their rapid response on the shooting that just took place in Butler, Pennsylvania. Most importantly, I want to extend my condolences to the family of the person at the Rally who was killed, and also to the family of another person that was badly injured. It is incredible that such an act can take place in our Country. Nothing is known at this time about the shooter, who is now dead. I was shot with a bullet that pierced the upper part of my right ear. I knew immediately that something was wrong in that I heard a whizzing sound, shots, and immediately felt the bullet ripping through the skin. Much bleeding took place, so I realized then what was happening. GOD BLESS AMERICA!” wrote Trump.
