Persecuted Christians in Nigeria received a huge boost as the Trump administration leaned on the ‘Queen of Rap’ to speak out against the horrific violence and murder happening overseas. Nikki Minaj, who is widely regarded as the top female rap artist of all time, shared a moment with U.N. Ambassador Michael Waltz where she made her case to support the beleaguered Christian community in Africa.
For context, and while figures vary depending on the source, tens of thousands of Christians have been affected by on-going Muslim violence. Tens of thousands have been killed, with many more targeted for violence and displaced, while thousands of churches are likewise being systematically destroyed. Donald Trump has raised the issue in lengthy Truth Social posts, and his team is now raising awareness within the United Nations and social media, aided by appearances like those from Minaj herself.
In a video featuring Waltz and Minaj, the latter responded to a comment by the former who thanked her for being with him at the U.N. and noted the administration had invited her to see how sharing the plight of Nigerian Christians on a larger stage and with a wider audience could “stop this genocide.”
“I’m honored that you even thought that I would be worthy to be in this caliber of a place, because you know, I never thought I would go from rapping to being here, but I’m so, so happy and proud, and I’m happy that I can speak for Christians,” Minaj began. “And I will continue to speak for anyone that I feel needs my voice if they are being persecuted.”
“Right now, I’m just wanting to let all of my Nigerian barbs, even if they live in the US. I want to let you guys know I love you and thank you for your stories that made me understand more what was going on. And I will continue lending my voice. I hope to see more of you guys lending your voices to it. And, yeah, let’s, let’s do the right thing like we’ve always done,” she continued.
“And Ambassador again, thank you so much. And again, President Trump and his entire administration. And to Alex, I just want to thank glad for being amazing to me and supporting me and helping me, you know, to understand what’s going on out there, and I’ll continue to learn.
I love to learn,” she finished. Watch Minaj speak to the treatment of Christians below:
And this is not the first time the rap artist has used her gigantic platform to call out the atrocities in the coastal country. On November 1st, she quote-tweeted a post from President Trump which stated, in part, that “Christianity is facing an existential threat in Nigeria. Thousands of Christians are being killed. Radical Islamists are responsible for this mass slaughter.” Read the rest of President Trump’s comments on Nigeria here.
Minaj’s response garnered an astounding 50 million views where she applauded the president for his strong response to the situation and reinforced how great America is that, right now at least, Christians can practice their faith freely.
“Reading this made me feel a deep sense of gratitude. We live in a country where we can freely worship God. No group should ever be persecuted for practicing their religion. We don’t have to share the same beliefs in order for us to respect each other,” her post began.
“Numerous countries all around the world are being affected by this horror & it’s dangerous to pretend we don’t notice. Thank you to The President & his team for taking this seriously. God bless every persecuted Christian. Let’s remember to lift them up in prayer,” the statement finished.
