In a recent interview, conservative icon Tucker Carlson slammed the Episcopal Church. While Tucker attends an episcopal church, he criticized the organization for its over-the-top, woke beliefs. He said the church holds views that are antithetical to Christianity. Carlson’s remarks were made in response to a viral clip of Episcopal Bishop Mariann Budde harassing President Trump at a prayer service on the day of his inauguration.
“This is not a Christian organization at all. This is a very angry, hateful organization run by dreadfully unhappy middle-aged lesbians, which is exactly what it is. So only by showing that in public can it ever be forced to reform,” Tucker said of the church in a recent interview. However, he was hopeful about how others would react to the clip.
“I actually thought it was a hopeful thing that the rest of America, not just we Episcopalians, could see what it’s actually like, which is repulsive and totally non-Christian,” he added. “It’s pagan.” He blames “woke-ism” for Budde’s rant, which he said was the latest “manifestation of something that has been at work in this world since Eden.”
He said this philosophy “exists under the very dishonest guise which is, like, to help and enrich and uplift people. It does none of that. It’s a purely destructive force designed to wreck institutions that were actually humane and divide people from each other along the lines of race and sex, and it’s just evil, and we should say that.”Carlson has long criticized the mainline denomination.
“I truly despise the Episcopal Church in a lot of ways. They’re for gay marriage because it’s trendy. It’s another way to express how hip they are,” he said in 2013. “They don’t care at all what God thinks of it because they actually don’t believe in God. And then the fact that they sanction abortion. Are you joking? A church [that] is for abortion?”
Despite his criticisms, he still attends an episcopal church. “I love the liturgy. I can recite it without looking at it. …. Am I going to defend that? No. It’s totally indefensible. I’m a shallow guy!” he said, explaining his situation. “That’s why I still go to the Episcopal Church. But I like it! I just don’t want to think too hard about my money going to these pompous, blowhard, pagan creeps who run the church!”
In her controversial sermon, Budde said, “In the name of our God, I ask you to have mercy upon the people in our country who are scared now,” during her sermon at the National Cathedral. Trump and Vice President JD Vance watched unamused with their families. She added, “There are gay, lesbian, and transgender children in Democratic, Republican, and independent families, some who fear for their lives.”
Watch a clip with Tucker talking to Piers Morgan:
The woke minister referred to immigrants as faithful members” of churches, temples, synagogues, and other places of worship and said they were “good neighbors” who pay taxes. She concluded, “I ask you to have mercy, Mr. President, on those in our communities whose children fear that their parents will be taken away and that you help those who are fleeing war zones and persecution in their own lands to find compassion and welcome here.”
