Megan Basham, who works for the Daily Wire and is best known for ‘Shepherds for Sale: How Evangelical Leaders Traded the Truth for a Leftist Agenda,’ has made a new update about her ongoing battle with cancer. She made a post to her X account, which provided additional information and asked for ongoing prayers. The internet reacted with an outpouring of prayers and support.
“A number of people have reached out and asked me how they might pray for me, so if I can ask for a specific request, I currently have two more weeks left of chemo-radiation and then a break for a couple of weeks before they put in a port for six rounds of more serious chemo (my brand will be FOLFOX chemo 🦊),” she posted to her X account.
“This is called neoadjuvant therapy. And the goal is total response, meaning that it obliterates the cancer before we even get to the surgery stage so that surgery might not be needed,” she added. “If you are willing, I would welcome prayers for total response and for the side effects not to be too onerous. So far I haven’t felt too bad and am incredibly thankful for that!”
The author added one more post in a thread, which read: “I should add that this is not just because I am afraid of surgery, though I am 😄. It’s because patients who have a total response have better survival rates and less likelihood of recurrence.” The famous author and pundit announced her health battle last week and amassed hundreds of sympathetic responses.
“The Basham family went on a bit of a roller coaster ride in 2024 and that continued through the end of the year. Just after Thanksgiving, I was diagnosed with stage three, advanced colorectal cancer,” she posted. “Christmas was spent in a flurry of scans and meeting with oncology teams for first and second opinions. Suddenly, many plans our family had for the New Year had to be set aside or placed on hold. ”
She followed up the devastating news with a passage from Scripture. “Proverbs 16:9 tells us that man plans his way, but it is the Lord who establishes his steps. And our steps are now heading in unexpected directions.” The author also explained how this will affect her public persona: “Scheduled trips will not be taken, a podcast I hoped to pursue with a friend will have to be suspended indefinitely. ”
Despite the bad news, she insisted, “…other plans, God willing, will go forward, like new book projects and helping Brian with exciting new plans for World Watch! And new goals, like beating cancer and allowing the Lord to shape us as he will through this trial are now on our to do list.” Basham concluded her post by letting her 144,000 followers know what her treatment would look like.
One user posted, “You are in our prayers, dear sister. We have been told over and over that our life is like a vapor, but until we face the frailty of these bodies head on, we lock that truth away behind a wall of disbelief. May the Lord grant grace and healing and strength.” Rod Dreher, another famous author, posted, “Oh no! Courage, Megan — God is with you, and so are so many of us, in prayer.”

“I’m so very sorry to hear this. It makes my heart hurt. May God grant you the strength, patience, and resolve to meet each day, and may God heal you of that cursed disease,” said David French. Smaller accounts also offered support to Basham. “Wow, so sorry to hear this, Megan, and praying now for the Lord’s hand upon you and your family. Will continue to pray often!” one user replied.
