Vice President JD Vance diplomatically, albeit firmly, stood by President Trump after his remarks condemning the woke American Pope for ‘catering to the radical left’ became the latest outrage fuel for Democrats. Trump scathingly went after the Chicago-area native in a lengthy Truth Social post after the Pope negated millenia of generally-accepted Christian dogma defending the notion of just and moral wars.
Vance began his defense on Fox News by saying Trump was well within his right to stand up for America, and indeed protect America, from Iranian aggression and its myopic quest to develop nuclear capabilities. “I think that’s a totally reasonable thing. It isn’t particularly newsworthy,” Vance said of an American statesman standing up for America.
When asked by Brett Baier if he thought Trump was out of line for exposing the Pope’s agenda, as well as his silence when Iran aggresses on others, the Vance then laid out his case for why Trump was not in the wrong and that if the Pope insists on wading into matters that are invariably political in nature, then he needs to be prepared to deal with the blowback.
“Look, I think the President has the prerogative to set American foreign policy. He’s got the prerogative to set American immigration policy, he has to look out for the interest of the United States of America. And that inevitably means that when the Vatican comments on issues of public policy, sometimes there’s going to be agreement, of course, and sometimes there’s going to be disagreement,” he rationally explained.
“I think that’s a reasonable thing. Brett, again, I don’t think that it’s particularly newsworthy, but I certainly think that in some cases, it would be best for the Vatican to stick to matters of morality, to stick to matters of what’s going on in the Catholic Church, and let the President United States stick to dictating American public policy. But when they’re in conflict, they’re in conflict. I don’t worry about it too much. Brett, I think it’s a natural thing. I’m sure it will happen in the future, and it’s not that big of a deal that happened in the past,” he added.
Prompting the entire segment on Fox was Trump’s fiery Truth Social post where he called out the woke Pope for all sorts of matters. Even as he listed off several examples, he easily could have added the Pope’s silence over former Democrat President Joe Biden weaponizing his FBI to target many of America’s Catholic families.
“Pope Leo is WEAK on Crime, and terrible for Foreign Policy. He talks about “fear” of the Trump Administration, but doesn’t mention the FEAR that the Catholic Church, and all other Christian Organizations, had during COVID when they were arresting priests, ministers, and everybody else, for holding Church Services, even when going outside, and being ten and even twenty feet apart,” Trump’s post began.
“I like his brother Louis much better than I like him, because Louis is all MAGA. He gets it, and Leo doesn’t! I don’t want a Pope who thinks it’s OK for Iran to have a Nuclear Weapon. I don’t want a Pope who thinks it’s terrible that America attacked Venezuela, a Country that was sending massive amounts of Drugs into the United States and, even worse, emptying their prisons, including murderers, drug dealers, and killers, into our Country,” he went on.
“And I don’t want a Pope who criticizes the President of the United States because I’m doing exactly what I was elected, IN A LANDSLIDE, to do, setting Record Low Numbers in Crime, and creating the Greatest Stock Market in History. Leo should be thankful because, as everyone knows, he was a shocking surprise,” he finished.
