Candace Cameron Bure is, thanks to her prominent exit from the Hallmark Channel over disputes about the content it wanted to run, which she found objectionable as a Christian, perhaps one of the most prominent Christian actresses in the movie industry. Like Mark Wahlberg or Chris Pratt, she’s one of the first to come to mind. Now, she’s speaking out about her faith and how she feels the need to stand up for and display it in public life.
Bure did so when speaking to ChristianHeadlines, saying that though her movies haven’t always been faith-based, her faith has always been important to her. Further, she said that when it comes to speaking to the media or otherwise being in the public eye, she tries to put her Christian foot forward to help inspire others and present a Christian role model to the world.
She said, “My faith has always been very important to me. While my movies haven’t been faith-based movies over the years, they were always just a stepping stone that if people wanted to look into who I am on a Candace Cameron Bure level — not a character that I’m playing — that [on] my website and when I would speak in interviews that I would be fully genuine and authentic in who I am as a Christian woman. And so that has always been a part of my life, really, since I’ve been in the business. And I’ve been in the business for over 40 years.”
Bure also noted that faith is something important to her new channel. Great American Family. Speaking about faith and how the channel tries to work Christianity into its content in a way that is powerful but not irksome to viewers, said, “We’re not afraid of that. We want to incorporate that in all of our movies without hitting you over the head with faith, either.”
She then added that faith is incredibly important to her, particularly as America grows more and more divided over nearly every aspect of life. She said, “As our country becomes more and more divided over social issues, it’s also become more important for me as a woman, as a mother, and a person in our industry to be able to have a voice for what’s important to me.”
Continuing on that point, Bure noted that making sure her Christian faith imbues the films in which she stars or otherwise participates has grown more and more important to her as she has gotten older. Commenting on that, Bure said, “And that’s my Christian faith. And so making movies that have more faith content has become more important to me as I’ve gotten older.”
Great American Family, in which Bure now plays a prominent role, has focused on competing with Hallmark to produce heartwarming content, particularly around the holidays, while also making sure that the content is Christian in tone and content.
