Speaking in a powerful video posted to Instagram, Christian actor Denzel Washington spoke out about what he sees as God’s message, calling on viewers to try to listen to God and realize that there are “powers higher than ourselves” out there, even if we are uncomfortable with that.
Making those points, Washington said, “God is sending us a message. You know, and it’s a fascinating, one, two punch we’ve had so far. The Lord knows where we’re headed and only God knows where we’re headed. So we’re being forced to deal with powers higher than ourselves whether we like it or not. We bet open our eyes and look at the reality of what’s going on. It’s not a joke.”
Commenting on the clip on X, X personality Dom Lucre posted, “Denzel Washington went live on Instagram with pastor Bernard to express his devotion to Christ and ‘God’s plan.’ Washington also spoke on the state of Hollywood and said we are being forced to deal with ‘powers higher than ourselves.”

This was far from the first time Washington spoke about his faith. In a speech given in 2019, Washington told the crowd, “Put God first in everything you do. Everything that you think you see in me. Everything that I’ve accomplished, everything that you think I have – and I have a few things. Everything that I have is by the grace of God. Understand that. It’s a gift.”
He continued, somewhat later in the speech, “I’ve been protected, I’ve been directed, I’ve been corrected. I’ve kept God in my life and it’s kept me humble. I didn’t always stick with Him but he always stuck with me. So stick with Him, in everything you do, if you think you want to do, what you think I’ve done, then do what I’ve done. And stick with God.”
He added, “True desire in the heart for anything good is God’s proof to you sent beforehand to indicate that it’s yours already. I’ll say it again. True desire in the heart, that itch that you have, whatever it is you want to do, that thing that you want to do to help others and to grow and to make money, that desire, that itch, that’s God’s proof to you, sent beforehand, already to indicate that it’s yours.”
Similarly, in a 2021 webinar, he said, “God is love. God is light. He shines his light and his love through us and we share His love with the world. In this time, at this time when we are spiritually on shaky ground, I believe from a spiritual perspective that God is talking to us now. He’s shut all of us up. He’s given us this plague if you will, and told each and every one of us to go back to our tents all around the world in an instant. And He said to us, in my humble opinion, ‘Take a look at yourself, take a look at your family, take a look at those that you love, appreciate them because God is love.’”
He added, “I start everything I do in prayer. We started this movie in prayer, we started the first day of shooting and prayer. God is love, and without purpose, there’s no existence, so find your purpose in your life. Whatever it is you love, whatever you’re passionate about, and you don’t have to know what it is at [14]-years old, but true desire in the heart for anything good is God’s proof since beforehand to indicate that is yours already in the limitless realm of supply and demand. I always say anything good you want you can have for the taking, so pray about it.”
