The popular X account Gunther Eagleman captioned a video saying “Germany needs a reckoning” after posting footage from Germany this past December in which heritage Christian Germans protested a massacre at the hands of an immigrant. During the course of the protest, one man appears to be arrested. Some claim he was arrested for declaring his religiosity while others say the video is incomplete and only sees his arrest, not the moment leading up to it.
The video was released during a massive German protest in the days leading up to Christmas after the 2024 attack on a Christmas market in the city of Magdeburg. In that horrific event, suspect Taleb Al-Abdulmohsen drove a vehicle at high speeds, plowing into the crowded streets where Germans were celebrating the Christmas season among countless stalls and shops. In total, six people were killed while approximately 300 people were injured.
Curiously, while the driver of the car – which was able to drive 1,300 feet through throngs of bystanders – was given refugee status from his home country of Saudi Arabia, he has been declared an Islamophobe by German media. It would seem that at the very least the notion of being anti-German is more applicable than being anti-Muslim given that the fatalities and and casualties were almost universally ethnic German peoples. Nevertheless, authorities said that he had disavowed Islam and for that reason had to flee Saudi Arabia since that act is a capital offense.
While it should have been easy to condemn the attack and ask questions why they appear to be on the rise, as has been too often seen in America left-wing media, the publication Politico even went so far as to express concerns that the attack would give rise to more anti-immigrant sentiment in Germany and seemed to be more upset that immigration policy would be targeted in the country’s upcoming elections than it was that hundreds of Germans’ lives were forever changed.
“A driver plowed a car at high speed into crowds of people at a Christmas market in the eastern German city of Magdeburg, adding further tension to an election campaign already riven by a bitter debate over migration,” the outlet wrote, before continuing: “Right-wing parties seized on reports that the driver was a man from Saudi Arabia, even before that or any motive for the apparent attack was confirmed. The incident took place almost eight years to the day after a terrorist drove a truck into a Christmas market in Berlin.”
There are many parallels to be drawn between Germany’s growing concerns with massive numbers of immigrants pouring into the country and America’s own election of Donald Trump, who promised to make the border issue a “day one” priority. Both nations feel a sense that their own governments favor immigrants ahead of them, and also see the massive influx of immigrants bringing unwanted problems like crime and criminality.
Add to that video footage like this, where German citizens can be arrested merely for protesting their own government and declaring their Christianity. Take a look at the video of the Christian man being arrested below:
