Brian “Welch” Head, known for leading the famous nu-metal band Korn, shared his testimony of how Jesus Christ saved him after his life spiraled out of control. Welch’s life had spiraled out of control through drug addiction and other forms of idolatry. However, his life was straightened out after being introduced to Jesus Christ.
Welch noted that before becoming a Christian, he scoffed at the idea of the religion. “I was the type of guy that you know would flip through the channels and be like, land on TV in our Christian channel, and be like, you know, who knows what I said back then, right? But just, you know, mocked it or whatever,” he noted.
The guitarist recounted how he had reached a point of desperation with his drug habits and struggled to find help. “And then, you know, fast forward years and years later, I got to this point where I was on that two-year binge, right? And I wanted to get clean I had talked to a couple of outpatient rehab places, one in Bakersfield and one in Hollywood, and they both were telling me, we don’t, we don’t have as much success with meth addicts as we do with other drug Ed and I’m just like, going, Wow, so what are you telling me? What can you do for me?” he recalled
Welch also illustrated that despite his wealth and fame he was completely empty on the inside. “I was just thinking, like, I gotta because by that time, I was like, I do not want to exist anymore. I’m a shell walking around with nothing of substance inside. And I got all kinds of money in the bank, but I just don’t want to wake up when I go to sleep. I just wish that I could just stay asleep. And you know, the only thing that made me want to breathe and live was my daughter,” he said.
However, kicking his drug habits proved to be insufficient. “So I’m thinking, I just need to get off the drugs, and so I could just be the best person I could be for her. But then I would have the thoughts when I get back on the drugs or do another line, and that would wear off, I would think, man, she better off without me. And I’d start going through the suicidal, the thoughts and everything and so, so it was a tug of war,” he added.
Once he was introduced to Christianity through several of his business partners, he made an “overnight” change in his life after encountering the power of Christ. “It was pretty overnight when I think about, you know, it was just a couple weeks, three weeks or something,” he said.
Describing his experience in church he said, “The pastor was so cool. There he was. He just talked about, like, using jeans and a regular shirt. He didn’t look like holier than now. And he just said, Look, man, you if you’re on drugs, if you’re messed up, if you’re have a bad marriage, you’re alcoholic, you come, come to church while you’re messed up.” Illustrating the power of God working through his troubles, Welch said, “Yeah bring all your garbage here, and God will come in and clean you out.”
