A pastor self-identifying with the pronouns they/she – that’s not a typo – was invited to give an opening prayer in Colorado’s Capitol Building on what is referred to as Transgender Day of Visibility. The pastor, Samm Melton-Hill, used the opportunity to recite hackneyed woke phrases such as ‘white supremacy’ and ‘misogyny’ and make tired references to ‘colonization’ and ‘transphobia’ in the wholly inappropriate remarks.
Incredibly, during the recitation of the woke “prayer,” there was very little pushback. The viral clip of this moment even shows presumably Democrat elected officials bowing their heads as if it were an authentic representation of appealing to God for humility, wisdom, grace, patience, understanding, betterment of the self, and self-sacrifice.
After brief introductory remarks, Melton-Hill immediately dove into the concept of being a “welcoming” place for everyone, as if the Christian church doesn’t already seek to invite everyone into a loving relationship with Jesus Christ, before emoting about the seriousness of the annual, “necessary ritual” of a visibility day for the so-called transgender community.
“…we welcome all, regardless of background identity or rap sheets, to be a part of our community where many are searching for God’s holy love, liberating God, we especially offer our prayer team today, which marks Trans Day of visibility. Trans Day of Remembrance and resilience is an intimate and serious thing, a necessary ritual for the ones grieving all year long, grieving the perpetuation of unnecessary death,” the woke pastor then declared, not quite specifying the evocative idea of unnecessary death.
“So may our remembrance not be in vain or in vanity, but coupled with conscious complicity in the structures that enable and encourage the destruction of life, pre participation in mourning, precipitate, working for change alongside, let this visibility of this day, the complicatedness of what it has become, acts as a chance to recenter its attention, to tell the entire truth about what creates the conditions of such death and suffering,” the “prayer” continued, cramming in as much postmodern pablum as absolutely possible.
It was toward the end of the disastrously woke prayer that the buzzwords came out. “We made these conditions that many of us have participated in taking comfort at some point, the class realities, the prejudices and policies, the theologies, the misogyny, the politics of respectability, the colonization, the disease of Christian nationalism, the transphobia and all of its births, and the white supremacy from which so much of it is worth over these conditions and all they steal from the trans community and those beyond…” Melton-Hill went on.
The prayer concluded with an almost-shocking utterance of ‘Amen,’ which given the rest of the tone and diction could easily have been the beyond-woke parody of prayer ‘A woman.” In this case, it did not. Take a look at the wild moment below:
