Following the highly anticipated matchup between the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Michigan Wolverines last weekend, a brawl broke out between players of the opposing teams after Michigan tried to plant their flag on center field. The scuffle lasted for minutes, where punches were thrown and some players were even pepper sprayed by authorities. When the dust settled both teams were fined $100,000.
However, amid the chaos in Columbus, there was a small group of players on both teams who joined together in prayer in a heartwarming display of Christian fellowship and respect, a stark contrast to the fighting going on behind them.
CBS Reporter Brandon Marcello shared the footage to X, writing, “While the melee was going on between Michigan and Ohio State, Ryan Day looked on and two Buckeyes and a Wolverine huddled together to pray.” Conservative Forum praised the young men, writing, “These four men need to be celebrated. LEAD BY EXAMPLE. Well done.”
Another user praised Marcello’s reporting of the overlooked incident that offers a different side of the story. They wrote, “AND…. that’s the “rest of the story!” Thanks for getting this truth out. This is the first I have seen this. The mainstream media spun it as he just stood there watching the mayhem & took no control over his team. Than you for getting this out & actually being a “journalist” 👍🏻”
Echoing similar sentiment, another person wrote, “Now THAT is how the rest of both teams should’ve been behaving. If not in prayer, at least in the same heartfelt spirit from which those gentlemen drew the instinct and desire to react prayerfully in unison.”
An OSU fan weighed in, “As a diehard Ohio State fan, this is heartwarming. Donovan Edwards has earned my respect. Classy move by him. I am glad that those men were able to put aside their differences and come together in prayer. It’s unfortunate the situation that was going on behind, but props to these 4 players.”
“God bless 🙏 thank you Gentlemen. It was disgusting to watch what “The Game” became as as result of poor leadership on both sides no strong men. But this is beautiful and hopeful and this is what strong men look like. ♥️” another person commented praising the demonstration of love and respect toward each other.
Earlier this year, The Christian Tribune reported on an evangelical event hosted by football players at Ohio State. The group passed out 10,00o Bibles to people passing by and event baptized those who stepped forward to give their life to Christ.
“These Ohio State football players just did something on campus that I have never seen before, a free event put on by some of the Buckeye’s biggest stars collected 1000s from the Ohio State community and grew even more throughout the night,” a narrator said in a mashup of the event posted on TikTok.
“It was all about sharing their faith in Jesus, which started with everybody coming together to worship, and the energy was amazing. Each of the players went up to share their stories of how their relationship with Jesus has changed their lives and how much God loves each and every person in the crowd,” he continued,
