Mike Westerfield, a former Muslim, recounted how he fell away from his Christian upbringing, converting to Islam after being convinced by the religion to question the deity of Christ and whether the biblical accounts were accurate. However, Westerfield was eventually confronted with the Holy Spirit, where it became undeniable to him that Christ was the true son of God.
After being introduced to Islamic literature in a Florida prison, Westerfield found his Christian faith shaken, where he pursued the Muslim faith. “I ended up abandoning Christianity and embraced Islam. I was a Muslim for 12 years and attended an Islamic University for some time in hopes of becoming a Muslim imam or scholar. After about 7 years of being a faithful Muslim, I started rethinking Jesus’ role after learning more about Islam, its deception, and lies,” he said.
However, Westerfield’s devotion to Islam would eventually be challenged by Christian peers, encouraging him to reevaluate Christian apologetics. Furthermore, Mike also met an ex-Muslim who also guided him back to the truth of Christianity.
“I started looking back into my old books on Christian apologetics from a Bible college I attended and began reading the Bible. I also started reviewing Lee Strobel’s literature in the Case for Christ, Case for Faith, and watched Ravi Zacharias’ videos. I was eventually introduced to Abdu Murray who was with Embrace the Truth International, he was an Ex-Muslim turned Christian apologist. He was the first Ex-Muslim I met and could share my thoughts and doubts with. He talked openly with me and did not condemn me. He listened as to why I was now considering leaving Islam after being fanatical about it at one time.”
Eventually, Mike had a powerful dream where the Holy Spirit visited him, completely turning his life around. “In 2012, I ended up having a dream about Jesus and in it I was covered in his blood! I couldn’t understand why I had this dream but it was truly amazing and I couldn’t get it out of my mind. Jesus’ blood filled the scene in my dream. I tried to run from it, but it covered me entirely! I felt such peace and love, and Jesus’ dark brown eyes pierced my soul!”
Further describing the amazing dream, Mike said, “I remember in my dream, I was thinking about the Messianic prophecies of the Old Testament, and then at that time, this face of a Hebrew man disappeared to me, and he didn’t say anything. He just looked at me, and his eyes were just dark and piercing, like he was just looking through my soul. And I said, this is Jesus. He just looked at me, and I was like scared that I didn’t know what to do. And then blood filled my dream, and this blood started just coming from nowhere, and I’m just trying to escape it, trying to run from it. It’s everywhere. And then I saw myself projected out into the blood. Then I woke up in peace and love.”
The experience ultimately pushed Westerfield to surrender his life to Jesus Christ. “Finally, I fully surrendered everything to Jesus a year later in January of 2013, and was born again! It was glorious! Jesus never gave up on me,” he said.
